I filed and when I get my check, I am going to Disneyland!  *jumps up and down*

IMO  the big boys are nervous that this economy can not handle high cost of energy.  So rather then fixing THAT...a distraction.  And why not make taxcuts permanent at the same time?

I dumped all my stock last week.

---I had even considerred buying rolls of pennies glaore...
the copper ones.

money is reshuffled and it means little.

what is wealth?  to have the goods and services one needs to live a decent life.

meanwhile razzlle dazzle watch the shniey object...

meanhwile the elites are scared.   and rightfully so.

Only about 19% of people plan on spending the money and it will only help if peopel buy American goods so in a nut shell this is just a way for congress to pat themselveso n the back for finnaly getting some thing done but it wont do any hting in the long or short run except waste more money and put us more into debt.

Boy Hunky you have a way of bringing things up, up from the bowels of my mind.

Watch the shiny object. What have we dug up today ? And this is a total hijack, if it goes anywhere we can take it to another thread.

The general public's mentality, or would that be the lack thereof, that is the materialism, the ignorance, other things, has been blamed on the flouridation of the water.

In tests, lab rats were found to not to be as intelligent when being fed the flouride. And for some reason, when they began flouridating the public water supply strangely coincides with the time when government  buildings got water coolers. I mean they started drinking bottled water that was most likely not flouridated.

Back to your regularly scheduled program.

You lot have been done over in the US - our lot didnt send us money through the mail, they bought us a bank!

I can hardly wait until tomorrow morning now, to go down and check out the local branch of my new company. A few hundred dollars? Youve been diddled!

It's an advance on your 2008 tax return.  Certainly something to keep in mind, but I'll go ahead and put it to good use.

Also, the check won't be sent until you file your '07 taxes.

It has absolutely zero effect on your 2008 taxes, or for that matter, how much you'll get in a check (as a "refund") based on your 2008 taxes.

It's a "gift", if you can call it that.

It will be added to the national debt.

(It will not, however, be "deducted" from your 2008 tax return...or check).

I'm sure the economists and spin doctors will come up with terminology and verbiage to disguise the fact, but Termy is right on this one, Level.  Calling it an advance is probably a gross simplification, but the gov't will be wanting this money back.

Indeed.

(See previous, as to national debt).

I suppose that's good, since they ALREADY TOOK IT FROM US ONCE!

With one most excellent exception---it WILL go toward paying the debts of those behind on child support, student loans, or other federal debts.
