Status: offline 		Why are all of the assholes of the right-wing media trashing McCain?

I am more and more convinced that "the powers that be" want a Democrat to win the presidency. Instead of giving them their scapegoat, I think I will vote for GOP candidate John McCain. Instead of trusting in his competence, I am convinced of his absolute incompetence for the task ahead. 50, 100, or 1000 years in Iraq? That's what is on offer. I say buy.

Otherwise, this country will stay on the same path of mediocrity with politics as usual. The next president isn't going to accomplish jack nor shit in the next four years and will have to pay the price of extricating the U.S. from several misadventures. It's not going to be a successful presidency, but rather an utter disaster. The next four years will be the continuing fallout and legacy of George Bush Jr. - the worst president in living memory!

Speaking for myself, I only like Obama slightly better than the other candidates and I already actively dislike his and Hillary's approaches to universal healthcare. So if I voted their way, what would I really be voting for? Or against?

Corporatism ad infinitum?

The current administration has led this country to the brink of ruin on several fronts, and done so entirely unscathed. That cannot stand. I say make the GOP pay the price. I have always despised the GOP even while not strictly identifying myself with the opponent party. Give them the next four years. Make them clean the shithouse.

What are the expected results of such a move? The country is nearly destroyed as is. Another four years might make it worse. But sometimes you have to utterly tear down in order to rebuild.

I think this is such a moment.

The GOP has to be revealed as the party of traitors from within that it has always been. They have never stood for anything but naked greed for the last 50 years. They never wanted a robust middle-class, worker rights, or any kind of water that lifts all boats. The GOP is the party of the elite warmongers that have only ever sought for profit in the spilled blood of others. Spit that blood right back into their hateful faces.

4 more years. Make them pay.

I agree with what you say, Sugar, but the problem is that you are dealing with a significant party bloc in the Republican Party who want to drag the rest of us into their apocalyptic and orgiastic death knell.

I agree that the next 4 years will be dismal, but I do think that it could be worse.

SMC might have a point here - whilst I'd like to see a Democrat (Obama preferably) get to be President and kick the Republicans out, I strongly suspect that the term will be very uncomfortable as a result of dealing with the mess made by the current incumbent - and then the blame for the situation be placed on the Democrats.

Speaking of inheriting the crap from the Republicans and placing the blame on the Democrats... Bush is currently setting up the Prisoners at Guantanamo (or however you spell it) Bay, so that they are only going to be tried during the time of the next president.  Then, that President (if it were Democrat or Republican), will have to follow the rules that Bush put forth in dealing with the Prisoners at Guantanamo Bay in the way that he outlined and not of the next President's choosing... thus perpetuating Bush's ways --establishing it as "standard practice"....especially if it is seen that a Democratic President does the same thing as Bush in trying the prisoners.  Plan B i suppose for the Republicans if McCain doesn't work out, set up the democrats next term so its too trashed to fix. tsk tsk

Status: offline 		The fault in your logic SMC, is that the republicans will EVER be held accountable. (see the opposing thread "Rove says it's all the media's fault") They will always find fault with someone/something else. Meanwhile, they will find ways to suck the blood out of the rest of us... never quite to the point of causing it all to collapse, but certainly to the point of keeping us from ever raising our situations. Remember, the idea of a "republican" is that power and wealth belongs in the hands of a select few.

To them, we're just "the hired help."

   It is funny. Regrettably the same can be said to US Democrat elites. Bill Clinton was Wall Street globalist. During Clinton years bottom 20% people wealth increased 2%, top 20% wealth doubled. Corporate greed was in boom during Clinton years. Greed is good was the mantra. Enron  was born in nineties. The economic crisis that ended Clinton presidency was actually never cured. Bush just found a way how to make economy look good on the surface (by creating easy credit and borrowing).
   Out of three presidential candidates McCain is the only one who stresses need to cut spending. Mrs. Clinton talks about balancing the buget but it is rather a joke considering all socal programs she is proposing. Nothing kills the middle class better than open borders and outsourcing  all three candidates seem to support.

Reasoning:  This country's so screwed up that he'll hate being President.

Slightly serious point:  This thing is silly, and you really need to get over the emotional stuff because it's leading you to rather irrational thoughts.

I am very anti-corporation, so I already oppose the Clintons and Obama. Of course, they also need to court that kind of money if they have any real hope of being elected. And then it's favor for favor, as always.

But McCain is just nuts. And you won't convince me otherwise with what you have said so far. I actually think he is being shoved forward so that he will lose, purposefully.

I repeat:

Status: offline 		It looks US government is in a state where it is uncapable to reform itself. There is some similarity to Soviet Union: country moved towards collapse and it was unable to reform. My prediction is that four years from now a strong third party candidate will emerge.

Status: offline 		Sugar, one very possible answer to your question is that those who complain the loudest about Mc Cain will have the most credibility to say, "Sure he ain't perfect, but he's better than that guy (gal), so vote for him, and lets the pressure up.  2/3 is better than nothing.".

I think we need more than just "two" choices!
I want to see someone in the W.H. who's going to take care of America and not giving our money away to foreign countries or getting us involved in the problems of foreign countries.
I'm suspicious of any politician with a "vision", they remind me of holy rollers.
"A shining city on a hill", what a bunch of crap!
We're hiring a manager not a hollywood director!
Just get us out of Iraq, get our Troops out of 130 different countries, secure our borders and enforce our laws. Penalise companies that outsource jobs or hire illegals.
Could they just do that? The things that they *should* be doing?
America needs to go on a stop spending diet.

I've been thinking this with all our Democrat and Repbulican politicians. It's time for America to vote for an Independent or 3rd party to show that "The People" are not mindless forever thinking its either D or R.
