Red: being a safeword between the dom and the sub.

Mayday: being a word to call anyone who can hear it to help. either because the dom isn't listening or the dom doesn't care or the dom isn't around.

What's wrong about screaming RED RED RED at the top of your lungs?  How would that get less attention than MAYDAY? I'm thinking RED YOU MOTHERFUCKER works too.

azropedntied -> RE: MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY (2/15/2008 9:17:37 AM)

Any word agreed upon by the parties  doing the exchange, or the  dungeon rules . I don't think i would shout this on your next cruise vacation at sea or  try'n to get your mile high  badge .
Does not matter what words you choose , pickles with head cheese what ever is respected and acted upon when called out as needed .Fireeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee may also not be a good pick ,

CalifChick -> RE: MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY (2/15/2008 9:21:31 AM)

Well, Big Blue and Toothy, if you screamed out "pickles with head cheese" I'm pretty sure OTHER people would not know you were in trouble.  We might all look at you a little funny, but we wouldn't know your tail was pushed past your limit.

sirguym -> RE: MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY (2/15/2008 9:23:50 AM)

I had not heard of the suggestion before, and I am not without experience in clubs, and have been a DM.

If I heard MAYDAY being shouted in a tone to me that suggested real distress, particularly repeatedly, I'd go right over, see what was going on. Just the same as if I heard the particular code word for that dungeon or even a Help! in a 'real' tone.(Any parent should be able to tell the difference between real and 'play' distress!)

If it looked really dangerous, eg imminent danger of choking, suffocation, broken bones, hands or feet white or blue through lossof circulation, somebody suspended on kit not designed for the purpose, anybody with eg a single-tail, knife or needles who was not in full control of themselves through eg drink, drugs or anger, I would intervene immediately and answer questions later. Otherwise I'd quietly seek out the DM and suggest he/she checks tactfully to see everything was OK.

I hope everybody else with enough experience would do the same. If you don't have the experience, make sure somebody who does is aware.

Personally, I prefer the safeword......

"never sleep"

Dnomyar -> RE: MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY (2/15/2008 10:06:45 AM)

I had a sub yell red you motherfucker before. How rude. I think that at lest she could have waited till I inserted it.

Cyis75 -> RE: MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY (2/15/2008 11:01:18 AM)

I know the dungeon spaces I used to frequent would use "SAFEWORD" as a dungeon safeword that would bring the DM on staff to aid. The partners themselves would have their own safeword they would use but that was reserved for bringing in outside assistance.

AquaticSub -> RE: MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY (2/15/2008 12:53:47 PM)

It has been my experience that "Mayday" is used group settings and means something along the lines "THINGS ARE VERY WRONG, EVERYONE GET THE FUCK OVER HERE NOW!"

However, I really wouldn't consider it a general thing. That's just been my experience. And I agree with TammyJo Katy, saying "No", "Help me", and "Get the fuck off" turns me on - something I'm not willing to give up when it's so easy to simply assign another word the meaning those words usually have.

Why do people need special words?  Can't they simply say "stop" or "you are going too far"? or "you are assaulting me".  I've never understood the entire safe word thing.

You are so full of shit! I distinctly remember when you were tied down, sprawled out atop the bony piles.....I can still remember how you screamed out "rutabaga" repeatedly at the top of your lungs! Alas, 'twas to no avail.....As I did you anyways.

Phin -> RE: MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY (2/15/2008 1:43:47 PM)

One group that I was involved in the "standard" safewords were green-yellow-red-mayday.

green - all good
yellow - something needs to change
red - something needs to stop
mayday - something is very wrong and help is needed now.

mayday is to be used by top or bottom if something is wrong. The one time I heard it, mayday was shouted by the top. the sub went black on the cross. He needed help getting her down and getting her medical attention. (she was ok)

junecleaver -> RE: MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY (2/15/2008 3:30:38 PM)

Hm.  I thought this was common in most play spaces.  I've never heard a person actually use it.  I don't think it's a bad idea, particularly considering how disorienting some play spaces can be.

azropedntied -> RE: MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY (2/15/2008 4:22:39 PM)

I once exclaimed AHHHHHH OWIIIEEE MOMMA with a  shallow whimper of mommy to follow .This was in a loft  at a dungeon , apparently the voices up there carry and travel quite well and i heard from below those don't sound like safe words .Though it was funny i did not find the interruption funny at the time . Sometimes i think  people in public  play dungeon spaces  need to know  its not an open  mic night  to heckle .
Many of the places i have been to  use the traffic light system  green yellow Red .
Cali - i shall only reserve the pickles and head cheese for you  wink . giggles ..
