Exactly what sort of rag is the Daily Mail?

[8|]

kittinSol -> RE: Lighter side of the news... (2/13/2008 6:15:34 AM)

The Daily Mail is middle-England's dirty little secret. It's a rag that's even worse than the Sun - hypocritical, moronic conservative asswipe fodder that appeals (mostly) to women (there's a 'Femail' section inside it: need I say more?).

KenDckey -> RE: Lighter side of the news... (2/13/2008 6:29:48 AM)

When I was in Frankfurt Germany My Captain had a subscripton to a paper I think was from Kansas City.   Aparently the guy that ran it  got sued regularly because he listed the names of all the women prostitutes (wifes, daughters, etc) Never lost a case.   The articles were great and we all enjoyed that paper.  It was a great rag

kittinSol -> RE: Lighter side of the news... (2/13/2008 6:52:53 AM)

Oh no. The Mail wouldn't have anything to do with prostitution. Or anything fun; 80% of its editorial consists in deconstructing female celebrities' bodies (to slam them) and in telling chicks how to loose weight.

Also, it's against: single-mothers; gay people; immigrants; anything French (means I'm out, then :-); the British government (because right now, Labour is in power; if it were the Conservatives, they'd still be slamming Labour, mind you); etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

God, I hate the Daily Mail. I'm going to kill Sugar for having reminded me of it [:D] .

The Daily Mail was the staunchest (but not the only) British newspaper to support Hitler.  The founders were personal friends of Hitler and Moseley.  A long-ago Prime Minister (I think Asquith but could be wrong) called it "by office boys for office boys" but it has since become more female-oriented.  It's a bit like the New York Daily News.  It is the second most popular newspaper in Britain.

101 uses for the Daily Mail

Nr 34; if caught out , the Daily Mail makes excellent toilet paper, although one must be careful which pages one uses; some pages are less absorbent than others, having already been filled to the max with shit

On London transport, however, one would think it was the numero uno paper; everybody's at it. And it's a fat motherfucker of a paper! Greasy ink and all [:-] .

I'm just too proud and too protective of my arse to do that.  One has to maintain a certain standard.

Did you leave before the onset of the freesheets?  Now there's the London Paper, London Lite, etc etc etc

Yes. I left in 2001. Eons ago. 'Fresheets'? Please explain. And do the 'fresheets' steal readers away from the Evening Standoid (the Mail's evil sister [:D]) ?

RealityLicks -> RE: Lighter side of the news... (2/13/2008 9:09:31 AM)

So long that you've started saying "eons" instead of "aeons"!

Well, first Associated launched Metro.  It was a cut down version of the Standard, which they distribute ouside tube and main line stations for free weekday mornings.  It's pitched slightly younger than The Standard - which is still around.

About a year ago, News International launched The London Paper (same demographic 16-34). A few more features, bit more colour. Cue Associated saying NI had stolen their business plan  and launching London Lite as a spoiler. All three distributed the same way: brightly clad kids shove them at you in the street.

There's also The City Paper, which is a free business sheet.

Phew! Oh, yes, The Standard raised their price, dropped some supps and their ABCs are climbing.  At this rate, their staff will be able to afford to shop at Whole Foods, which has taken over Barkers, next door to their building.

Homesick yet?

I can't tell you much. Never thought I'd say it either.

Youre all crazy! They built the M25 for a reason you know....

I have to go to central London on the 7th March, and I'm dreading it already.

"The train to Birmingham is cancelled, due to us not being particularly bothered about you having bought a ticket. However we can get you to Worcester where you can get a taxi home for under a hundred quid which we will not reimburse you at all, ever. We wish you a happy trip"

RealityLicks -> RE: Lighter side of the news... (2/13/2008 9:35:08 AM)

When they finished the M25, I knew a bloke who thought it was the first step in the construction of a dome to protect us from nuclear warheads!  Good thinking , I reckon - sod the rest of them!

And they did. And the Dome was. And all was well.

Are you related to P Y Gerbeau, by any chance?

kittinSol -> RE: Lighter side of the news... (2/13/2008 9:50:11 AM)

LadyE, just thinking of London makes me want to cry with nostalgia... it was my home, you know? Okay, off for a bloody good sob now. Nothing a cup of char can't cure, aye?
