okay so i'm sort of going stir crazy here. i need to talk about this somewhere where the people aren't involved...

i just had my first fight with my best friend in this city. apparently i'm obsessive about something (which i do agree with) and i said something that i honestly don't remember saying. now it's turned into this big high school drama mess with fighting away  messages and what not. i agree mine was not all that mature but the response i got was a litte beyond appropriate from my perspective.

that being said the thing that really has me concerned is that she's supposed to be co writing a paper for a conference in just over a month and now she's claiming that she won't write. she's already sent her deposit and whatnot, and is already on the program. i'm not sure what the hell i'm going to do if she pulls. i have a paper but i may have to cancel anyway because there's no way i can do this all by myself...

Give it some time.A day or two and then seek a resolution.

sleep on it and go see her face to face tomorrow, the computer makes it so easy to be hateful.

Read your signature lines, you'll find strength there.

Also, you and your BF need to share a pitcher of margaritas,
remembering the good times, cause that's what best friends do.
They work at keeping cuts and scrapes from getting infected.

If you both don't do this - you both lose.  Even if you can fulfill the professional it may be a pathway to fix the more important personal confilict.

Good luck - people are never easy - but they are always worth it.

i'm actually hoping that this is will be the way to go---i'm going to give her a few days and then email and point out that she's made professional commitments outside of our social groups.

Perhaps a phone call may be a more personal touch?

my concern is that she won't pick up if i call, and this way too i have a hard copy if she claims later that i didn't try to contact her about it. i'm hoping that it doesn't come to that though.

Perhaps in your email you could tell her how much you have always valued her as a friend and colleague. Focus on her integrity and ethics. Nothing wrong with a little buttering up. It's not flattery - it's reminding her of her character assets.

And remember the quotes from Churchill in your signature.
