Sadisticforslave -> question about searches (2/10/2008 10:42:01 AM)

This is more for the Moderator's then anyone else and the best way to ask it is to give an example.  I read the profiles of people (yes I do) and if they don't want something that I have I hide the profile.  For example:  Say a profile fits me completely except for the fact that they want only bald men.  Well of course then I would hide that profile since writing to them would only mean they delete the message since I have hair.  But lets say that after about a day, two months, or a year they change their minds and want to include men who have hair.  They change their profile to reflect that.  BUT, since I have already hidden the profile I don't get to see the change.  So I miss out on a chance with someone who fit me in their profile but had that one thing that was a conflict.  Now they remove that one thing and now they fit me but to me it seems that the profile would not show up again since I have already hidden it.  Is this right???  Or am I totally without a clue?

if you are just asking mederator this question, likely you wont get any replies.

A hidden profile is a hidden profile until you unhide it period.  IT can be changed or not, you will not see it if you have chosen to hide it.

So you are saying that if they decide to change their profile then it will not show up unless they make up a completely new profile.  So that means that if they just change the profile, since I have hidden it, I will never see the change.  I wonder how many know about that when they are changing thier profiles.  To me it would limit the amount of people who see thier profile and therefore limit the amount of chances they have of finding the one they want.

try using the note box on their profile, saying when you viewed it.  That way you don't have to hide the profile, but will still knowthat you've checked it out already.

kc692 -> RE: question about searches (2/10/2008 11:11:14 AM)

If that was the case, then noone should ever change their profile because others might have hidden it, sorry, that makes no sense to me.

Wonderful idea,.  a bdsm tickler file.

GreedyTop -> RE: question about searches (2/10/2008 11:22:29 AM)

I've started to do that, simply because I forget which profiles I've already viewed (umpteen times..LOL).

Sadisticforslave -> RE: question about searches (2/10/2008 1:07:03 PM)

And you still have to view the profile before you see the notes you have put in saying that you have already read the profile.  which means you end up viewing the profile again.
maybe if there was a little check mark or something on the main page showing that you have viewed the profile that would work.  without it you still end up clicking on view a profile.

Dear Lord...you want all of the work done for you, don't you?
Friggin go through your hidden list every few months and check them out to see if that one thing holding the two of you back from each other has changed.
Or don't.  And then you can run to this side to complain.

DesertRat -> RE: question about searches (2/10/2008 2:36:15 PM)

Sheesh! If you can't afford to waste time seeing a profile twice, are you sure you have enough time available to properly cane the bejeesus out of a girl? I only hide profiles when they become really tiresome.

Maybe you could send a message to the potential lifemate, asking her to write you if she changes her specifications?

kc692 -> RE: question about searches (2/10/2008 2:46:46 PM)

Not only that, but joined since 10/27 and already tired of looking......3 1/2 months. That might be too much reading.

What is the point of hiding profiles anyway realistically? I’ve never understood this, it’s a bit like shovelling elephant shit when the elephant hasn't finished. In fact the elephant never finishes it just keeps on doing it continuously. There is probably a better metaphor for this I suppose.

Say you hide one bald man isn’t there like a million bald men so what is the point in hiding one bald man. Also bald men are constantly joining the site all the time. Also some non bald men will be joining the site but going bald as they get older.

If I was to make one suggestion to CM it would be that sexual preference should be tick boxes rather than drop down list. So that I can hide all the Lesbians but keep the bisexuals and straight women. At the moment I can’t exclude people from the search only include people. In truth I don’t search much anyway, so never mind.[8|]

Hiding people is not really a search aid it’s just a way of pretending annoying people like me don’t exist. Is my point.

Aileen1968 -> RE: question about searches (2/10/2008 3:07:59 PM)

I only hide the really creepy ones...the ones that make me shudder.

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: question about searches (2/10/2008 3:13:28 PM)

They are the fun ones those though I saw this bloke the other day he looked like Rev. Ian Paisley. I could swear his eyeballs were looking out of the screen at me. He had this odd smile too.

RedMagic1 -> RE: question about searches (2/10/2008 3:22:04 PM)

I've met several women online-to-real.  Not once was I "what they were looking for" according to their profile.  Case in point: the woman it looks like I'm getting serious with said in her profile that she wasn't looking for long-term, no way, nohow.  I ignore stuff like that.  It's a defense mechanism.  There's no such thing as a woman who "just wants sex" unless she's already in an alpha relationship with someone.  If she's someone you are interested in, write her and explain why it's worth her time to write you back.

And.... the last time I looked at Aileen's profile, I.... shuddered.  A lot.  I should really block it.  Being newly faithful and all.
