LadyHathor -> Male Perceptions of the Polar Opposite (2/10/2008 6:51:10 AM)

I was going to post this in the Master section, but thought it is better served out here. This is open to anyone, however I am most interested in hearing from the males--now this is not a spitting contest and I do hope to get some solid wisdom in this post ( if it goes anywhere)--

Male Dominants--what are your perceptions of male submissives?

Male Submissives: what are your perceptions of male dominants?

Would you  or do you socialize in the vanilla world in a circle that contains the other "type" ( like golfing, bowling, neighborhood get togethers)? How does that impact your interactions?  (I am not interested in BDSM outtings).

I'm openminded enough to have friends of all sorts. I will say that I tend to want to be good friends with those who are similar to me. Just a human nature thing, but not something that doesn't allow me to be friends with all types. There are lots of male submissives on here and that is fine with me. Male Doms feel threatened by other male Doms if by anyone. Competition and all that.

RedMagic1 -> RE: Male Perceptions of the Polar Opposite (2/10/2008 6:59:10 AM)

To answer your last question only:

There are do-me subs, do-me Doms, and do-me vanilla men.  I don't make friends with them.  I do try to befriend and spend time with men (and women) who make the well-being of others one of their life priorities.  Their favorite physical sensations seem like a minor point in comparison.

justdavid -> RE: Male Perceptions of the Polar Opposite (2/10/2008 7:08:41 AM)

I have tremendous empathy and respect for male submissives. They have a much tougher road to travel in life. They have it more difficult to find a significant other and have a much tougher time in fighting off societal pressures of how a man is suppose to be in a relationship.

In terms of being friends with them I have zero problems with. I am going to be with people I respect and have common interests with and the last time I checked dominance or submission was not something I would run through the respect filter as that would make me a giant hypocrite nor has any bearing of day to day things that friends do.

sorry i am just a female here...but in the vanilla world how the hell do we know whom we are associaing with? i mean i have a chip in my forehead that sets off a magnet everytime a dom walks by AND dom radar with an invisible pherenome device  that gets them from miles around just to walk by me in he first place.....so i guess i would know them but i don't have one for male subs who rather more or less disinterest me...whereas i have a gaydar for submissive females......

I am hetero..so I can't give a sexual opinion, but if you mean if I think they are less male them me....NO
Even chat with some..and see them just as persons...not as less

ToysAndTies -> RE: Male Perceptions of the Polar Opposite (2/10/2008 7:50:24 AM)

I think it's the same in lifestyle stuff as the vanilla or business world.  I don't see men as Dominant (and thus manly and strong) or submissive (weak and needy).  I see them as honorable or assholes.  Personally, in life I have had roommates and friends that get shoved around by women left and right, both voluntarily and involuntarily.  I've had the opposite, men that walk in a room and women vie for his attention.  As a switch, I see both sides of the coin, and accept them all.

Politeness and respect go a long way.  I can't respect a Dom or sub man without it.

SimplyMichael -> RE: Male Perceptions of the Polar Opposite (2/10/2008 7:53:20 AM)

As a broad category, I think male submissives are the only group full of more idiots than male dominants.

That said, I think it takes a lot of guts to be a male submissive and the ones that I know and respect are better men than many dominants that I know.

Well, i would guess that the original proposition was socializing in a non-BDSM setting with people that you know from a BDSM setting. Sometimes i encounter people in vanilla situations and get a very strong "read" from them as being involved in D/s.

As far as the OP, i have a lot of respect for most of the Male Dominants i've met in person. There have been a couple of overly-Alpha loudmouths, but on the whole, i'd say they're a smaller percentage than you would find observing vanilla guys at a sports bar. i can't say it really impacts the way i interact with them because i tend to be submissive towards everyone. As a result, it's actually enjoyable to have a natural Dominant around to do things like make decisions and talk to people [:)]

Not sure if there was a particular angle you were looking for, but that's my first-thought response...

Amen to that!

CuriousLord -> RE: Male Perceptions of the Polar Opposite (2/10/2008 8:27:57 AM)

Dom/sub doesn't matter in the vanilla world.  Mature people understand that their kink isn't something to force on others.

You should see my family get togethers.  Most of the males and half of the females are alphas.  And we get along just fine.

One of the most basic and common archtypes of a male dominant is a guy's guy,  Other than not my being into sports, these are the type of men i get along with.  Put on some country music, give me some beer and bourbon and a cigar; throw me at a pull table, and i'm a happy man.

Now, other submissive males on the other hand; most that i've met in real life are pathetick, spineless, bitch-boys that i would rather hit than look at.  (weakness brings out my own aggressive tendencies)

Chaze -> RE: Male Perceptions of the Polar Opposite (2/10/2008 9:15:44 AM)

I suspect your question has the potential to elicit much deeper response, perhaps another thread. On the surface, those male dominators I am familiar with are men of exceptional content, most extremely successful in the business world or any endeavor they enter into. The male slaves I know demonstrate the same qualities but are charged to a higher code of honor.
The submissives males I know are much like dommes, emotionally bankrupt, out of control mentally and physically most of the time and by in large not driven by any honorable codes of conduct. However I know very few male submissives.

Most of my exposure to male submissives is online. The few male submissives that I have met in person have been decent, pleasant folks who I enjoyed talking to. Whether I hung out with a known submissive male in a social setting would solely depend on whether I enjoyed his company or not...  it wouldn't be based on his sexual or fetish orientation. That would be totally transparent to me.

Shall we assume that you include the Domme to whom you are responding in that characterization?

And how many Dominas do you know? I take umbrage with that statement.

The word was dommes, meaning all.

POC, Dommes, means female Dominants, the all inclusive would be Dominants.

I think of "dominator" as cartoon character, but that aside - you then said:

You are now saying you meant dom/mes are emotionally bankrupt, out of control mentally and physically most of the time and by in large not driven by any honorable codes of conduct?

You are a piece of work.  I hereby nominate you for the clueless newbie award of the week.
