LadyHathor -> Giving it up? (2/6/2008 5:21:26 AM)

Ok I had to, though I am a Wiccan, I do follow the 40+ days of lent, as a  way to get rid of some bad habits, bad eating etc---and I don't cheat on sundays---so this year its My beloved gin---

what are you giving up--if anything?

Taintedblood -> RE: Giving it up? (2/6/2008 5:29:28 AM)

MissMorrigan -> RE: Giving it up? (2/6/2008 5:55:34 AM)

I spend the year trying to get rid of bad habits, some I'm successful with and from reading my own comment, it seems I have a lot [:D]

I just wanted to say that my grandmother, bless her heart, died in her 80s and every single day (without fail unless she was very ill) she had a Gin and Tonic at exactly 11am (just the one) and did that her entire adult life. It was her 'vice' and while she was a very religious lady, one that never spoke a poor word about anyone nor raised her voice in anger, I always think to her whenever I see someone mention Gin! lol

pahunkboy -> RE: Giving it up? (2/6/2008 8:01:04 AM)

Nothing.    I gave up disco in 1979, by Easter the coho lips were in full gear and disco went off the radio.

life can be hard enuff.  and being on an austerity programn..well im cutting back on spending which has nothing to do with lent.

faerytattoodgirl -> RE: Giving it up? (2/6/2008 9:06:48 AM)

I'm not giving up; I'm taking back.

SubbieOnWheels -> RE: Giving it up? (2/6/2008 12:53:24 PM)

I look at Lent as a season to pray and reflect in order to rid myself of attitudes and emotional issues that plague me. And I mean give up - entirely, permanently. Two years ago it was feeling guilty over things that were not my fault. Last year it was being dishonest about my fears - I learned to share them with others and so open myself to any help the others can offer. This year it's frustration over things I can't do anything about.

Usually by Easter I have worked through the issue, and right after I say "He is risen," I can add "and i am risen as well."  It really does feel almost like a resurrection.

Wow, I can't believe I've forgotten about Lent so thoroughly.  Seems like it's been an age since I've been in a church.

Not giving up anything.  Just always trying to work better.

....think i gave up observing Lent for Lent some years ago and it just stuck.......
