Did you read the article? No consumers became ill. This was a case of an as yet not fully understood illness occuring in a meat packing plant. I'm guessing if you don't use compress air to liquefy and extract pork brains you're probably pretty safe from this problem.

Ok- then the cheese baord lobbying the fda to    put glue in  milk and cheese,  gm crop which gives eater ecoli -if monsanto isnt paid.  mad cow which took billionaire oprah to court over food dissing; alar on appples,  red die number 3, aspartain, margrain 1 chemical away from plastic, fish so polluted one cant eat the fish, labels so misleading my momma eats herself sick-  all of which is the current state of affairs--   cat food that kills cats, named brands, lead in toys, antifreeze in toothpaste.

ild rather over re-act then under react.

factor in obesity and ask your dr for pill marketing based on lopsided science studies.

You are what you eat.  Grabage in is garbage out- presuming your colon expels it.

I try to eat whole foods as much as possible and know where they came from.

It is my opinion that if you skimp on quality to save money then you take a bigger risk of having problems. Avoid alot of preprocessed foods.

I also do not eat out often and when I do it is usually small, locally owned restaurants. They tend to be cleaner and buy less pre-packaged and processed foods.

I never eat while going to the bathroom. I keep that shit in different rooms.

That was a joke right?

No, it isn't. My local restaurants may very well be different than yours.

Ask one of these locally owned non chain restaurats to let you look in their kitchen and storage areas sometime. If they do, I doubt they will, you'd likely discover a few things.

First they're not scratch kitchens. They use shortcuts and mixes that you would never use and they buy the cheapest food they can. That's the nature of all but the highest end places out there. Nothing wrong with that either btw it is how you keep your doors open in food service.

Second while it is highly unlikely to be filthy it is likely to be less clean than you thought. Vertical surfaces in particular are likely to be much less clean than you would tolerate. The fact is spotless costs more in labor than sanitary and safe. A lot of chain places, the dreaded McD in particular, hold their franchisees to much higher standards of cleanliness than do local health inspectors and that does tend to mean that your average diner kitchen is going to be a lot less clean than McD's.

The article deals with a different issue than you are asking about.  But in terms of meats I am trying to buy from local organic small farms as much as possible, especially with red meat.  Its three or four times more expensive, but I know where my meat comes from (hell I could pick the animal) and I know how its been prepared.  And quite frankly it tastes ten times better.  And the nice side effect is that I eat less red meat.

I can't speak for LAT's local restaurants.  If she lives in an area like we do.  Most if not all are locally owned.  You're right they usually are worse off than the chains.  Our big restaurant in the local town is Applebees.  Which is truly pathetic.
Anyway, I've worked with a few local restaurants since moving here and yes...they are pretty bad.  Although the chains aren't much better either.
Everyone has rats for the most part.  Including grocery stores...the ones around here..the smaller ones have more rats.
I guess it is a personal choice but the food at the local restaurants doesn't taste very good either.  Hence, less eating out and more home cooking.
When people rave about the best restaurant our town has to offer within a 50 mile radius and it is a truck stop you know things are bad.
