I don't really have much time off until the summer,
can you wait for me?

Are you asking me sight unseen? What if I look like a gilamonster?

MzMia:
I never had sex with a gila monster before...I did a porcupine once though.
A lot will depend on how much seeks wants for the tickets and what restrictions apply... they may not allow "mixed couples"  you know a jesus junquie and an atheist.

I have two tickets for a nice weekend in Kenya, any offers ?

seeks:
How about twenty bux for those tickets you don't want?
What are the chances you think it might snow in Kenya while we are there...should I bring my stick so I could do a little "shredding" now that I know that this global warming thing is a hoax.
You had better not be having me on about the tickets I got something cooking based on your offer.

If seeks is having me on about those tickets to Kenya do you wanna meet me in Amsterdam?  What with Sanity's assurance that global warming is a scam we could do some shredding there...after "Bud Fest" 08

Global Warming caused by Green House Gases and Pollution is irrelivant. We just have to make China believe it.

If China can be convinced that their current methods of waste and pollution is the cause of there climate and environmental changes, then we may have a chance to see new laws made. These new laws made in China will impact current outsourcing methods.

Good point,as well as India.

Global warming folks are generally the first to tell you that a side effect is greater extremes in the weather, not uniformly warmer weather in every single location on earth.

What they aren't so quick to point out is that every year, somewhere has it's coldest winter in 100 years, or it's hottest summer in 50.  If people are reminded of that, they might ask, "what SUV's caused the dust bowl?"

It means it was China's turn.  Has anyone brought up how this might affect preparation for the Olympics?

They are literally shutting down whole cities and large industrial/factory areas in the weeks before the torch lighting, just so that the air is suitable for breathing.

WTF`s up with that?

Well that should ensure the athletes complete the 100 metres.
The marathon might still be a problem..

The transport to Kenya involves an economy long way round ticket.
A slow boat to China
A bicycle to Calcutta
A Rickshaw to the Sahara
A camel down to Nairobi.
From then on as long as you dont look like a Kikuyu you should be alright.
Medical insurance not included.
Cost $100 Canadian. per person. Bargain or what ?

China battles "coldest winter in 100 years"

Reuters - Millions remained stranded in China on Monday ahead of the biggest holiday of the year as parts of the country suffered their coldest winter in a century.

Caused by Global Warming, undoubtedly!

I thought this post was ironic, considering the article this morning in the Toledo Blade about the mild winters (and ensuing lack of ice) contributing to the lowering of the Great Lakes.

Global warming folks are generally the first to tell you that a side effect is greater extremes in the weather, not uniformly warmer weather in every single location on earth.

I am constantly amazed by people who swallow the idea of "global warming", and believe that it just means higher temperatures, and that's it.

The proper term is "climate change", and it has a whole panoply of problems--not just warm weather. Melting polar caps means more water vapor in the atmosphere, upsetting predictable weather patterns and causing (amongst other things): snow in the Middle East; changing fisheries; greater abundance of insects due to warmer air; precipitation increases and decreases in different areas; stronger hurricanes due to warmer water (which leads to greater damage and higher insurance costs); new diseases (micro-organisms flourish in higher CO² concentrations).

Then there's the longer-term problems which occur as glaciers and snowpacks in the mountains melt: shorter ski seasons (there was virtually no new snow in Switzerland); rising unemployment in mountainous areas; animals flocking to foothill and plains areas in search of water; forests will suffer more wildfires, as well as more infestations by bark beetles which no longer be held at bay by the usual coldsnaps in winter.

Climate Change means more than just warm weather in some areas, and freakish cold in others; it's a Pandora's Box of long-term trouble for everyone on the planet.

You missed a few things.

A complete list of things caused by global warming

I am not an alarmist on man caused catastrophic Global Warming.  But the climate has absolutly been getting warmer (and Glaciers shrinking) for over 10,000 years.  And we had better plan smart for it.

The last ice age according to most...didn't finally end until 6,000 years ago. So the planet was getting warmer for ten's of thousands of years before that.

Global warming as it is discussed today is defined as the effects on climate directly as a result of human activity.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me....It appears that I will have a traveling companion.
I will go a hundred bux canadian for two tickets leaving from Los Angeles.
What sort of clothing should we pack as I am still unclear as to your take on the global warming thing.

i'll sign for the sand.  so far people have been unable to consistently make it rain, snow or get warmer intentionally.  This world, according to the scientists, has been through global cooling and warming in cycles.  it is reported to be devastating to the inhabitants here (Except possibly cockroaches).  Apparently the top of the food chain in each instance has been unable to resolve it....Enjoy the sunny weather, or solve rather than gripe.  do be careful, the solution might push in the opposite directions.  it is hard to remember one wanted to drain the swamp when up to one's ass in alligators.

atursvcMaam -> RE: China battles "coldest winter in 100 years" (2/5/2008 8:20:06 AM)

i almost forgot, there might be a market for this in china, sand is good for traction.  if your supplier can come up with snow shovels, snow tires and/or salt too, you might have a winning combination.

seeksfemslave -> RE: China battles "coldest winter in 100 years" (2/5/2008 8:54:35 AM)

Thompson: my "take" on global climate changes being caused by human activity is that I am a cynic.

Why? Because I believe the forces that shape global climate are so large that the amount of energy required to change such things is outside of anything that humans have done or are likely to do.

For example the Earth is girdled by standing waves of winds in the troposphere or "somesphere" anyway and these winds have major influence as to whether land below them is desert or is fertile.

adding: I dont know enough to be sure but thats what I believe.
Also the inadequacy/uncertainty of the paremeters used to feed the computer models that are coming up with these Doomsday prophesies leaves plenty to be desired.

Owner59 -> RE: China battles "coldest winter in 100 years" (2/5/2008 9:42:26 AM)

What if you change the way the sun`s energy is processed, by subtle changes to the atmosphere and the mix of gases in it.

Anyone who thinks that the earth is to big or vast to fuck up,should join the flat earth society.

There aren`t any doomsday prophesies, just unpleasant scenarios, including more and greater flooding on the shore line, bad disease carrying insects being able to exist farther north and south, changing eco-systems that might affect us and our food supply, drought, etc. Not as sexy as a "doomsday",but sucky all the same.

It`ll happen over a long period, way longer than the attention span of most people. They may not know why it`s happening or care and might even get used to it .

Question:

If someone said your local ground water was poisoning people, wouldn`t you be curious to know?

Or should we divide the pro "look for poison" people and the cynics up and make it a political debate?

Were not talking in the abstract, here. This is our world and our children`s,children`s,children`s world too.

Good answer.

What if the earth/environment/air is being poisoned/degraded?

Where do we move,...Mars ?

Beachfront property in Idaho or Iowa?  The German Riviera.  i have yet to find any investors for my electric, combustion engine free car.  i have a great idea, want to invest?  The nay sayers have told me it's impossible, the Non concerned call it an unnecessary expense, there's plenty of gas.. I remember my dad once told me that an electric vehicle would be reasonable if one could find a long enough extension cord.  It is doable, cost effective, and actually environmentally friendly.  i am not an environmentalist, but a capitalist trying to find someone with money who sees this as a threat.  i will welcome any money or source to produce it.  Any takers?
