Jeffff -> Expectations (2/1/2008 8:06:13 AM)

In regards to a number of recent threads, I am wondering , how many people here actually believe we are all in this together? Does anyone believe that wiitwd, makes us all one.

Jeff

Yes, kum ba yah, my Lord!

KatyLied -> RE: Expectations (2/1/2008 8:10:10 AM)

I don't buy it.  But I also don't necessarily consider my submission the be all and end all of my life either.  It's part of who I am, but I have many facets to who I am and what is important to me.  I don't care for the threads that try to kumbaya us into being shiny and happy, just because we are kinky and like to play with authority.

RCdc -> RE: Expectations (2/1/2008 8:11:13 AM)

No.
And if I did, really wouldn't be here.[;)]

Come on, Katy, give me a lil hug?

AquaticSub -> RE: Expectations (2/1/2008 8:11:51 AM)

Not really. I think we are people with a common interest. It would be nice if we were more of community simply because I think that is what will get us the social advances we are looking for (not having to worry about being outed or having an interest in BDSM used against you in custody battles) but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

sweetwenchie -> RE: Expectations (2/1/2008 8:20:12 AM)

Yes, we should all sit in a big circle holding hands and feeling smug and superior to anyone NOT in our righteous little group! [8D]  We can mock those who do not conform to our ideal vision of kinky utopia.

(too sarcastic?)

subtee -> RE: Expectations (2/1/2008 8:21:27 AM)

Nope! Not too sarcastic for me...kum ba yah!!

GreedyTop -> RE: Expectations (2/1/2008 8:22:11 AM)

No! I don't know these people! I have nothing to do with them! You can't prove a thing! I wasn't there! I wasn't even in the same country! Not even on the same planet!!
(where's that video? I need to burn it)

Dnomyar -> RE: Expectations (2/1/2008 8:22:15 AM)

I agree with AquaticSub. I would join you in Kumbaya but then you all would start throwing things at me.

Shawn1066 -> RE: Expectations (2/1/2008 8:22:30 AM)

We're not together, at all.

We should be, to a degree...  And I mean to a specific degree.  We should be together enough to protect one another's rights and health through general education and the like...  But not together enough where we get into large groups and try to dictate things.

There is no lifestyle, there's thousands upon thousands of little ones.  In my limited experience, anywho.

KatyLied -> RE: Expectations (2/1/2008 8:22:49 AM)

Subtee, I'll hug you and toss in a grope for good measure!

Dnomyar -> RE: Expectations (2/1/2008 8:24:39 AM)

Hey! Whose hands do I get to hold?

Define "all in this together" and "makes us all one"?

Stephann -> RE: Expectations (2/1/2008 8:49:12 AM)

When people rail against munches, I usually have the same thought as this thread strikes:

"I'm not here for everyone, I'm here for the 2% who I might click with."

Yet, that same statement applies to every function I might attend; a bar, a party, a concert, a coffee shop, anywhere people socialize.

I don't like most people  Yet if I walk around ranting about how I don't like most people, the few people I would like probably wouldn't be interested in talking to me.  If I want kinky friends, a good place to find a few (I've found) is places where other kinky people go; namely online sites (like this one) and real life munches/play parties/dungeons.  In the few months I've lived here in California, the people I've come to enjoy spending time with, I've met through online (here on collarme, and on craigslist,) and a local dungeon.  I don't think this ties an entire community together, to be 'in it' as a group, but I do think it gives a springboard for us to all start from.

What specifically got me thinking about this was the" politics and bdsm: thread. It seems odd to me that because of wiitwd, we would be thought to share any general ideas on politics, religion or anything. When you considerer the wide range of....kink, for lack of a better word, to think of us as one big community, strike me as.......silly. And.... I was bored..:)

Social advances for the kinky people?  I'm a middle aged, middle class white man who likes having my way at home and having my woman take care of me and do what I tell her to do in all matters including sexual.  I have never worried about being outed and no one has ever threated to hold my kinkiness over my head.  I have never been denied a job or promotion or been told I couldn't rent an apartment because I like being waited on hand and foot by my woman. And what we do sexually is private.  Sorry but I dont think there's a need for a social revolution to demand equal rights for kinky people everywhere. There are far greater social ills that need to be dealt with.

MasterFireMaam -> RE: Expectations (2/1/2008 9:31:10 AM)

Not sure. All I know is that we MIGHT all FEEL that way, but we rarely act as if we do. Same as any other group.
