Since this is an election year and we do love to discuss political policies, the administration and candidates.. how about we have a forum just for politics?  This way we can find those threads in one place and those that don't want to be sifting through the political threads in off tropic would be spared?

As the description for this section states, this is a forum for the open discussion of any and all topics of interest. Its fine to debate politics and religion here... and just about anything else you want to bring up.

This was my reasoning.. in case you missed it:

Edited to add: I enjoy the political threads.

And when a thread on something else drifts off into politics?  Seems to be a plan to make the mods work harder, especially in a heated election year.

I would suggest you try Polls and Random Stupidity, but plenty of political threads wind up in there anyway.

Politics is a common topic of good discussion.  It has very little to do with WIITWD.  That makes this the right forum for it.

LotusSong...aren't you sick of politics already?...damn wait until the political phone calls start in earnest. I wish they would include political calls in the no call list.

See, I also agree.

I'm partial to the system they have over on B.com, actually.  A couple of people assigned responsibility to certain sections of the forums, and enough 'different' forum sections so that political/news threads don't overly crowd (or be crowded) by the "how do I fix my toaster?" threads.

Nope. :)  I just wish I didn't have to sift though the posts to find them :)  Hate to miss a good debate is all.

And Rych, I'm not saying that the off topic forum isn't the appropriate place for politics, I'm suggesting perhaps a temporary forum for the election year so those like kdsub can avoid them.  We do have a lot of political discussion and I think it would work.

I thought the same.. but I got shot down by many the last time I wanted another sub-section in the forums.. *smiles*

Some folks just do not like change I guess.

We do not need subsections for every thing that comes along.. but adding a couple of sections to make things easier to find and comment on would make life easier for some of us. *shrugs*

Well, I used to think this was the political forum!

Those tend to be THE most popular threads here.

Let's just make this the "unofficial political forum", hell it is anyway!

Now, post away!

US politics makes up a hefty share of the Off Topic forum threads. While people from the rest of the world occasionally post matters of political origin from their respective countries, they don't indulge in the "he said she said" to such a degree as the American members do.

Having a separate USA Politics forum would reduce the wear and tear on the Off Topic forum and help prevent we foreigners from despoiling the debate with our pesky international perspectives and questions like "why does it take you three years to pick someone for a four year term of office"?

But then what would we do here if we didn't have the Yanks to kick around?

Mark me as "undecided".

well just as I can stroll on over to the Masters forum and post something ..if you are from outside the states you could certainly post something.

I think just a political forum would be good. A full time one. For all the worlds Political stuff.

I talk about world politics all the time. ( Dont get me started on Pakistan!)

Am I from there? Nope.. but I talk about it.
It is good to get others views on what is going on. It is why I watch BBC news before I will turn to CNN.

Just an idea...

I dont see why when we mention a new forum section folks think it will be any different or they will be dis-included.. the more the merrier.. it is just about easily orgainizing stuff so we dont miss postings is all.

I mentioned other topics turning political, but there is a great example going the other way right now.  What started as an Obama thread has taken a most interesting turn into a discussion of the Bay of Pigs invasion.

Mod Eleven just recently addressed that issue:

I had seen that.  I think it's more focused on intentional derailments, than thoughtful conversations that veer unexpectedly.

I wouldn't want to be the one making those decisions.

Chalk the whole EU thing up as a "Really Bad Idea" and start bad-mouthing and squabbling with each other again freely?

I say this is completely tongue in cheek, despite its semi-inffectiveness, the fact that the EU actually got created at all proves humanity can actully cooperate with each other in something other than wartime.

.....Please note the use of the word "cooperate", not "like each other".  No power in earth and heaven will ever make the British and French like each other.

Doesn't politics touch everything we talk about?
And the Mod warning was really more focused on specific incidents than general hijacks or post 'swerves'.
