This is actually good business.  I practice something similiar in my business.

The fact is, as a rule of thumb, the 80/20 rule .... uh .. rules.

Eightly percent of your profits come from 20% of your clients.

Eightly percent of your trouble comes from 20% of your clients.

Rarely is it the same 20%.

Business goal:  Eliminate the troublesome 20%, and encourage the profitable 20%.

Additional business goal:  Encourage the troublesome 20% to do business with your competition ...

And here I thought the companies that made money by pissing people off were confined to Telemarketing firms and Online Tech Support.

Absolutely. In my industry, the percentage of shit clients- the "squeaky wheels" who more likely than not will end up ripping us off- is less than 5%. But somehow, our brilliant management team thinks that every customer is equally indispensable [>:]

Having been a Waiter, Cook, Cashier, and Customer Service, I know what it means by having a customer who is more trouble than he's worth. Take the snob who sends back there Porter House Steak for having too much fat in it and demands the Prime Rib to be free for him and his date.

In my experience, there are some people who just can't be pleased. When there displeasure only gives you negative profit time and time again, it's time to tell them to go somewheres else.

Have you ever seen customers walk out of Wal Greens to go across the street to CVS? What about from Dennies to IHOP or Auto Zone to Pat O'Riley?

It's good to rid yourself of trouble and let it find its way somewheres else.

Sorry maam, but we're a business and not a charitable counseling session here to listen and cater to every whim or need.
