Status: offline 		Ok.  The thread I orignally had up was pulled.  Those involved know why.  I won't mention the "word" or this will get pulled.
Shall we start again?  I thought it was getting pretty good.  But, that's just me. 
Do you believe in global warming?
Do you believe in the 2012 prophecy?  Do you think the Mayans might have known something we don't?  The I-Ching, Nostradamus?
Do you believe that the evolutionary process is preparing the future generations with higher levels of innately ingrained intelligence, perceptions, and spiritual beliefs to guide them through the inevitable?
There are threads on here about extremely limited grain supplies.  Atlanta almost ran out of water this season.  The bees are dissapearing. 
Can you deny what is happening?  What are YOUR thoughts and explanatiions?  Do you take any responsibility, personally?  Or, do you feel it is "just the way it is?"

yeah it struck me as sort of excessive but if the mods thought it needed to be, well, it's not my decision to make.

Status: offline 		Well if all the stuff you name is predestined by prophecy, then it not only "just is the way it is" with no individual responsability, it is the way it has to be.   It would mean that all suffering and destruction is good, as it is part of the plan and what must happen.  Not sure I agree with that, and tend to go with "god" gave us free will. 

I haven't seen any evidence of "higher levels of innately ingrained intelligence, perceptions, and spiritual beliefs to guide them through the inevitable "   There have always been gifted people, nothing new.   Ums today have an inate sense of how to navigate a series of windows on a computer device/dvd/video game, I don't know thats a good thing.  They seem to be on the average fatter, weaker, more allergies, more athsma, more autism, and addicted to video screens.  Though I know one extremely gifted one.  You would probably classify him as "blue".

Status: offline 		Another more pessimistic view on human evolution is given in the movie "Idiocracy".  It is by the South Park people, but isn't a cartoon.  Really funny movie.   " Duh, I like Sex, I like Sex a lot!  and Money, I like Money too!" (you have to see the peoples faces and voices when they say it, it is apperantly a very common sentiment in the future).

Yes, free will.  Perhaps that is the lesson to be learned.  And, it is our destiny to learn it because we deemed it to be so.
And that is where the question of feeling some responsibility comes into play.

How to praise white men  properly:  as Gods or/and their messengers, depending on who you ask.  I mean, granted, it led to them all dying a horrible death to various plagues, but that was only a issue which could've been overcome by lots of hazmat suits in a 24/7 sort of usage.

I'm just curious as to what qualifications deem something as a "good thread".  Should it be twine?  Cotton?  Polyester?
I've seen the likes of many "I" didn't think "worthy" take off like crazy.  Especially those with strong,  negative ovetones.
Am I dissappointed?  Yes.  Am I surprised?  No.
But, keeping it in context, what do you believe of global warming?

A.  Madmen are plentiful in the world.
B.  Madmen love to make up doomsday stories.

One must realize that, even if there's no strong explicit reason to disregard a "theory", that the absense of a reason to believe in it in the first place is plenty.  I mean, I could tell you right now that sea cows are about to rise out of the ocean and take over the land for their oyster overlords.  And you don't have evidence against it.. just it shouldn't be taken serious in light of the complete lack of evidence for it.

Same deal with this.  We have superstitions and madmen without evidence nor reason.

Status: offline 		Concerning global warming – well, I believe that the climate is changing but then it has always been changing and always will so long as the Earth exists, so why get all worked up over it? Having clean air and water is reason enough reduce pollution. We shouldn’t base social policy on illusions of control.

Concerning December 21st, 2012 – I believe it will be a Friday. As for Nostradamus, he has yet to have one verified predication so I wouldn’t give too much credence to what he has to say. I don’t really know anything about the I-ching but anything that goofy sounding is not to be taken seriously.

Concerning evolution – evolution is not a conscious process. Natural selection is adapting us to our environment, same as every other living thing. It is not guiding us toward anything. We are, however, the first species to be able to interfere – for good or ill – with our evolution. Ultimately, despite this power, we are still limited in our power and are subject to the same physical laws as all other species. If our numbers become to great for our environment to support us, then their will be a die-back and possibly extinction.

First, "global warming" isn't a "doomsday theory".  The consquences of extreme global warming might be considered a doomsday theory, but not global warming itself.

And, second.. I've studied a lot in my life.  If there's one thing I've come to take stock in above all else, it's the ignorance of man.  The work climintologists are doing strikes me as good work, important work, and possibly even correct.  If their suggestion is reducing carbon emmisions and treating the environment better, that sounds like something we should be doing anyway, so let's get to it.

But what one must understand is that they're doctors trying to account for a pacient's temperature going from 98.6 F to 98.7 F with limited information and some reason to believe that the skin might be retaining more heat.  Now, in this case, the paticient's Earth and they have reason that the pacient may exaserbate the issue, which could cause a dangerous fever, but these doctors are still studying for their pre-med exams and they're really not that sure about anything.  Right now, they're still trying to figure out the patcient's anatomy.

Status: offline 		Earth's the pacient in the analogy.  The doctors are the people researching global warming.  The pacient's skin is the atmosphere.  The slight increase in body temperature is a(n alleged) slight increase in global temperature.

If that's not clear enough, I'll try posting again after I've had more sleep.

Gee.  That doesn't take a rocket scientist, now does it.  It is SOOOOO simple.  Why do people make it so hard?  Denial, perhaps.
Does anyone here understand the concept of the exponential curve?  And, how that relates to the increase in population and the decrease in resources? Not to mention the increase of non-conducive environmental gasses in relation to the population and consumption of resources.  If so...perhaps one might see that we could possibly be coming around the exponential curve (you can google that)  into a straight up projectory.  And, if so, 2012 might not be so far fetched.  Scientists are already saying that it is happening MUCH faster than they had originally predicted,
Then there is the issue of the cencorship that has been put on our federal climate reports by the director of climate control, or director of envornmental policy (not sure the exact title) who happened to be an x-lobbiest for Exxon-Mobile.  AND, who recently resigned the position when things started getting exposed about his "censorship".  And, guess where he works now?  LOL  He works for Exxon-Mobile.  GO FIGURE!
If global warming wasn't such a threat, why would they go to such lengths to hide it?  But, hey, what do I know.
