MV, you're approaching a wide variety of subjects with a scattershot approach, so I'm going to answer you one at at time before this thread gets too confusing. >Do you believe in global warming? A warmer planet means less ice, which means more water vapor in the atmosphere, stronger weather patterns, and the chain-reaction starts there. Understand the science, and you understand the problem. >Do you believe in the 2012 prophecy? No. Prophets are popular because it's a shortcut; believe in others so you don't have to think. I have yet to see one prophet who can stand up to scrutiny. >Do you think the Mayans might have known something we don't? No, that's very doubtful. Although the Mayans developed a highly sophisticated architectural system, language, and astronomical sciences they were limited by their environment and technological shortcomings. >The I-Ching. Philosophy. Good philosophy, deep philosophy, meaningful and friendly, but not prophetic. >Nostradamus? Nostradamus has been whooped up for centuries, but most people overlook the fact that he wanted to be a prophet from a very young age because he saw that they got attention. If he was around today, he'd be a desperate nonstop blogger. >Do you believe that the evolutionary process is preparing the future generations with higher levels of innately ingrained intelligence, perceptions, and spiritual beliefs to guide them through the inevitable? No. Evolution is a gradual process which equips species for dealing with a hostile environment. Spiritualism is a different ballgame entirely. >The bees are dissapearing. Colony Collapse Disorder is an ongoing problem, but it's hardly new. Scientific literature of the last 100 years mentions honey bee disappearances several times—in the 1880s, the 1920s and the 1960s. Whether this was due to the same root cause, no one knows. Scientific investigation is continuing.

Do I believe in global warming, yes - although I don't believe it is 'just' caused by humans. If you believe in any form of evolution, you accept that the world is evolving as well. 2012 Prophecy? I do not discount any prophecy. I like to keep an open mind - the mayans are pretty cool - not a big Nostradamus fan. I do believe that there are people with individual abilities, but I also believe that there are many people who do not use their abilities as well. I also know that some people with more refined abilities are used and abused - nothing new there. Personal responsibilty? Absolutely. But not to try and change evolution or climate change. Shame the thread was pulled, but not surprised. the.dark.

I thing, perhaps, what amazes me is that when this simplistic theory is pointed out and then applied to things such as global warming, that perhaps 2012 is not so far fetched, that the high intellect levels that our prodigy are demonstrating might be what they will need to survive the population dump, people STILL go into such a great denial about it.

Prophecies are great! They can mean almost anything you want. Didn't get it correct? Date off? Details not quite in line? Must be your fault because a prophet can't ever be wrong. Especially those wonderful "prophecies" written years after the fact, I love those as a historian.

LOL! though i just saw an interesting show on the history channel on prophecy that was talking about postcognition (as opposed to precognition). they were talking about mother somethingorother, a prophetess in middle ages (i think) england. they determined that most of 'her' (it's debateable) work was written well after the time period she supposedly wrote in, which made most of her prophecies written after the fact. the thing that the historians were debating, is that there were a lot of things that had made no sense to anyone until the rise of the internet when everything started clicking and they realized that he or she,whoever it was actually writting under that name, got a lot of stuff right about the computer age. the debate centered around whether or not we are reading our own interpretations into it or if it really is some of the very rare legit precognition.

As someone previously said, too many questions. I'll stick with two. Do I believe in Global Warming? I prefer "Global Climate Change", GCC. No, I don't believe in it. I accept it as fact. Big difference. Do I believe the 2012 prophecy? No, that's Terence McKenna after way too many mushrooms. He stumbled upon the Mayan calander in his ethnobotanical explorations and built a whole mythology around the fact that, according to the Mayan calander, December 23, 2012 is the first day of the new Long Count cycle 13.0.0.0.0 4 Ahau 3 Kankin. (see A Forest of Kings: the Untold Story of the Ancient Maya by Linda Schele and David Freidel, William Morrow & Co., NY, NY 1990; pp 77-84). The calander is too difficult to explain concisely.

Oh, global warming is quite real. I'm not so sure it's entirely due to human activity, however. We've had increased volcanic activity in the 20th century, and also the sun itself seems to be running a slight temprature. In fact, temps are up all over the solar system. (go to Space.com and do a search on "Global Warming Mars" for an example. The other links will fill you in on the other theory of what's causing it.) The rest of the stuff... feh. Religious BS. The only "doomsday" I can forsee is the same one that's been hanging over our heads since we were all practicing our "Duck and Cover" excersises in school. And sadly, that one gets more likely with each whacked-out middle east nation that buys its way into the club.
