When just getting to know someone, it is very important for me to have somewhat open communication. I WILL NOT be topped from the bottom, but during the learning process, I like for a sub to be able to tell me what he is feeling - until I am able to read his nonverbal queues. I use a red, yellow, green system - green = good, yellow = proceed with caution (or sometimes like a yellow traffic light - I may speed up a bit to really press their limit [sm=whip.gif] ) and red - obviously STOP. At some point, the "light" system is no longer necessary, and I usually know the person well enough that they don't need a safeword, but still can use RED if and when there is a health/safety issue. A sub that tries communicating without the proper word is actually punished...tell me "yellow Ma'am" and not "I am uncomfortable", or "green Goddess", not "oh yeah" - or else you will find yourself getting pretty close to RED![sm=whap.gif]
