i hate handcuffs give me rope any day of the week, i can't use any kind of tape cos i have an allergic reaction, ive still got the marks from new years eve play and the cuffs just cut my hands up too much and made my arm come up in a huge rash cos i let my arm get totally numb before saying anything so cuffs and me dont mesh but me and rope is a different matter :D

OK I'll admit it- we own two pairs, pink and purple covered.  They were a cute and fun gift and we keep them in the bag right next to the leather suspension cuffs.

Don't knock my kink just because it's not serious/scary/dark like yours.

interesting aside for this - my friend has a pair and leaves them out in the open - basically as a conversation peice to see if the current 'man' is interested etc... before she brings out the 'flog me to orgasm' line ... they aren't used as an actually restraint just as an opening 'gimmick'

Careful with the cheap cuffs. While I understand not having money for the nice toys right away, I've heard some horror stories about the cheap cuffs breaking during use and cutting people and the lock breaking and the cuffs tightening too much on the wrist and leaving scars.

I have a relatively inexpensive pair, but I don't intend to use them for "serious" restraint. I have a couple specific uses for them, both involving more symbolic restraint than anything else. I prefer leather cuffs for the real thing.

My last Mistress preferred me in restraints that were pink or fuzzy/frilly.  It actually was more humiliating than wearing "manly" or "threatening" restraints.

i think it would depend on what we were trying to accomplish. i'm called fluffy for a reason. if He was going for cute and/or fluffy we might go for some stupid mild toy like pink furry handcuffs. if we going for a more traditional or 'harder' scene then we use a more traditional toy intended for heavier play.

They'd be rather spiffy hanging from a rear view mirror.........is about the thing I can think to do with the cheesy things.

I mentally put furry handcuffs in the same category as hot-topic style bondage pants: you could use them for their intended purpose, but if you've bought them, it was probably just cause they're funny/cool/insert appropriate adjective here.

I have a set of police issued handcuffs, unfortunately they cause Brats wrist to go numb after a bit, even loosened up a bit.  Therefore I recommend velcro retraints.  I purchased a nice set that included two wrist restraints with 3 foot tathers, two ankle restraints with 3 foot tathers.  This makes it nice and easy to restrain your partner in various positions without putting much stress to those areas.

Aaah, here's something I can contribute to...

As far as handcuffs/ legirons go, ditch the el cheapos and go with a pair of NIJ certified handcuffs.  They're stronger, and they have a double lock that you should ALWAYS engage.  They're made of a thicker material so that they're less likely to cut in.  they have standards for tensile, shear and torque strength and a provision for a standard keying.   I have a pair of tennis wristbands that I like to use as a pad when the scene may require.  Also, as much as I LOVE handcuffs and the like, they aren't reccomended for high stress bondage, like say, overhead bondage,or where there's a constant pull.   Remember, handcuffs are designed as a temporary restraint.  And as another poster said, you should be able to slip a finger between the cuff and the sub, and check their hands every so often.  Plus, it's hot to see soft girlflesh locked up like that, but I digress.  Handcuffs /legirons/waistchains aren't a end all restraint.

Now, those of you with a pair of the furry ones, go get them.  Yes, I'll wait.

Got em?  Good.  Take a look at the key.  It's made of potmetal, a very weak tinlike alloy.  It will break.  Use this inferior key to open the cuff.  Now take off the fuzzy sleeve.  See that inside edge?  Not very shiny is it?  That means it hasn't been refined, nevertheless polished or machined.  If you have a good set of NIJ cuffs (Hiatts, Peerless, S&W, et al) compare it to them. you'll see what I mean.  That's why they put the fuzzies on other than to make it look less threatening.  With it open like this hold the lockcase (where the keyhole is) in one hand and the swing bow (the part that closes)in the other and twist.  Dosen't take much, does it?  They're aluminum and not much stronger than a pop can.  Same point where the chain attches to the lockcase.  A strong guy could pop the cuff right off the chain.  They 'claim' to have a double lock with that sliding lever on the lock case.  Slide it a couple of times.  Close the cuff (if you still can) and try to engage it.  If it does, rattle  or tap the cuff somewhere a couple times and watch it disengage.  Do your sub a favor, don't insult her and lock her up for real.

Between these cheap cuffs, the dreaded "I lost the key" scenario and Doms who aren't taught how/where to use them are what give all handcuffs and legirons such a bad reputation in the BDSM world.  I have a greatly expounded presentation on my other computer on this whole topic, which I may present here (the collarme forum) in the future

~FR~

My daughter bought me a pair of furry cuffs about 10 years ago (leopard print). I wouldn't use them for any serious scening, but for pics and giggles, not a problem.

I missed this the first time around, so thanks for bringing it back.

This story is from a few years ago.  I had been at a party that turned into something of an 'after party' later in the evening.  There was a gal there who was new to our little group.  She had done some exploring in the past, but she was finding that she had a couple of mental barriers that she was hoping to overcome.  One of them in particular was being in metal cuffs.  She was ok with rope, and even leather restraints, but the metal messed with her head in some way.  She had bought herself a set of the furry cuffs, in hopes to use them as a stepping stool.  She had her own personal plan in how to get over the metal + skin + male top = squick for her.

Long story short, she made a bit of progress in realizing her goal that evening.  She wore the furry cuffs while I did a short bit of flogging.  She was very proud of herself that she was able to take that first leap.  I was proud of her, too, and very honored to be a part of her journey.

Don't discount those furry cuffs, or any other item that might be important to somebody else.  It just might lead to something wonderful.

Editted to remove an extra "s".

It was very late last night when I made my post, and may have been incoherent.

What I meant to say was that these adult store handcuffs are sold cheaply and cheaply made.  It may have worked in your case, but they are dangerous as compared to NIJ or NIJ-quality handcuffs.  They're ok as a non-threatening stepping stool,  (as in your case) or to hang from ones rearview provided the local cops don't harass you, but one should upgrade as soon as possible.  One can also  usually put the fur or leather liners on NIJ cuffs as well if one wants to 'dethreaten' them, so to speak.

I'm not attacking your views, but I wanted to throw out a safer alternative.

Rowrrrrrrrrrr... droool... pant... pant...

I have two pairs of heavy steel transport cuffs with the nice chain (18 inches?) connecting them. One pair I've had for going on 20 years now, the second pair I picked up a month or so ago.  That chain makes a nice little handhold for someone to yank on. Now I'm gonna have to go back and re-read my own journal entry about cold metal and steel and handcuffs and oh myyyyyyy. And then go take a cold shower.

I don't do cheap furry handcuffs because they don't feel like you mean it.  Steel means you mean it.  And if you're going the other way, with mental bondage, that's a whole different headspace for me. But wishy-washy in the middle, pass.

I am guessing the OP is talking about the cheap cuffs that you can get from thrift stores and anne summers in the UK, not the more expensive fur lined cuffs.

the.dark.

yeah they would break like a twig anyways, I think they are more for 'kinky sex' than to actually stop people moving around, but then I think bondage/restraint a lot of the time is aesthetic rather than practical a lot of the time anyways.

I think they are cute, I have a pair of handmade pink leather wrist/ankle cuffs and they are adorable.

The furry handcuffs are great when you are trying to perv a vanilla friend...  hehe. I specifically went out and bought a pair of cheapish, fuzzy handcuffs while I was in a relationship with a vanillaish boyfriend of mine a few years back. The idea was to just start slow, bring something into the relationship that was non-threatening and small.  I mean come on, put yourself in their place. If you were brand new to the whole kinky thing, and your s/o brought home a huge pair of locking leather and steel retraints, complete with the matching chain.. wouldn't that be kind of intimidating? Would you know what to do with all of that?

Anyway's long story short, he's a genuine perv now. Wee! Mission accomplished.
