Nyquil last night and tonight... the real stuff, the kind the Pharmacists keeps behind the counter and takes down your driver's license info to get. That some left over loritabs and some jameson on the rocks, making life semi liveable.

What are you doing to combat yours?

neti pot
zicam gel swabs

If it gets bad I will take mucinex (in the cheaper, generic robitussin form).  I don't take any other over-the-counter medications.

Good luck; mine lasted for three weeks.  Another three weeks later and I still have a cough that I am worried will get worse because the van broke down and I was stuck in a cold vehicle in -33 degree weather for about 30 minutes today.

Vitamin C
Nyquil during the worst
Buckleys (not sure if they have it in the US) I didn't like that one, because coughed so much I was throwing up for two/three days
Dimatapp (sp?)
Cold FX (another Canadian drug I think)

Knight's Kyra

Buckleys...*shudders* I took that while I was in school in Ottawa.  It is the nastiest thing on the planet, but damn does it work.  And I do think I have seen it here.

OH yeah... I got some of the real mucinex. I would have bought the generic but I wanted 1200 milgrams not 400 and they didn't have it in the generic.

All you have to do is measure it and drink it.  But yeah, if you are going for ease, definitely buy the pill form.

This is the first time I've used zicam.  My symptoms did not worsen after I started it.  Of course I don't know if they would've worsened or not.  But I'm close to being a believer.  But you have to start the zicam as soon as the first symptoms start.  If I'm so blocked in the sinuses that I can't use the neti pot, then I start the mucinex.

I had one in December, and it lasted until after New Years.  I don't take OTC medicines because I am a hypochondriac, and I am paranoid of the side effects.  So I just drank whiskey with honey until I didn't feel sick anymore.

You don't get better faster on my plan, but you feel good.  LOL.

Nyquil is my best friend when I'm sick... That stuff kicks my arse... and I'm out like a light.   On those occasions when I can't sleep (which are tooooo often as of late) I'll slug down a cap full and I sleep like a baby.

girly

oops, how rude of me. I hope you're feeling better soon FDD

I've seen neti pots, but how do you use them?
Thanks in advance!

Flu.  Advil and Tylenol, two pills, alternating between them every two hours.  Some TammyFlu.  Lots of liquids and a loaf of this good whole wheat bread so I can keep it all down.

The best part?  Sodas.  Yes, this is the one illness where they actually encourage you to drink sodas.  Oh man, my dentist is going to be pissed.  :D

They don't make it sugar free, but it is good for hangovers.  It doesn't have the sugar that sodas have.  Damn Jameson though.....that's un-American FatDomDaddy.  I stick to the booze made in Bourbon County.  Yeah that means I don't mess with that bullshit imitator made in Tennessee (Jack Daniels for the teetotalers and uninformed).  Maker's Mark is my medicine.  If I have to be cheap; it's Jim Beam.

Hot Green Tea with Honey and Lemon

Spicy Food

Mild to moderate exercise (Push Ups, light jog, that sort of stuff that makes me breath)

Nasal Strips

Hot Showers

Have more orgasims. Sex and or masterbation boost you immune, stimulates heart rate, heats the body, and causes you to breath more.

Drink plenty of fluids such as Tea, Water, and some juice.

One shot of Whisky, Tequila, or 151 before bed time.

Medication wise, I'll use Mucinex DM.

Should I suffer for more than 10 days, then it's off to the Dr for Antibiotics. But it's been very rare for that to occur.

I just got back from the ER.... 3 weeks of being a snot factory I had had enough. I had gone to an "urgent Care" place last week.. they said no infection.. oh your fine take some over the counter.. and go.

I *knew* I had an double ear infection.. I can't bloody hear and my ears feel like someone is trying to shove thier thumbs in between my ears and make them meet. *ickie*

So the lovely ER Doc looked in my ears ( can we say Owwww ) and looked in my throat... and she made me take 2 zithromax right there. Not only do I have a double ear infection.. but sinusitis. Oh Fun.

So I have a script for a Z pac ( go me) and the lovely and talented ER Doc told me to take Claritan. Add to that the Nyqil http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KeKeylrOIE I plan on swigging at some point.. ( not the Green Death flavor *shudders* ) I think I should be better soon.

Gwyn,
The Q is talkin' to me!

I think it comes in pill form now, but Alandra made me take the liquid.  It does taste bad and works a little too well on me; after two days she stopped giving it to me.

Try some chili, so spicy you sweat while you eat it, to break your sinuses loose.  And exagerate a bit in the urgent care so they'll give you the codeine cough syrup.

I have the same thing.   I cannot hear anything.  Tonight at work, I got some Claritin which works really fast.  Tomorrow, I am going to do something different because I take enough medicine as it it whch is I am going to my chiopractor.  He can pop my ears.   It works.
Good luck to you.
I have tired everything over the counter.  Nothing works so far but the Claritin.

Regards, MissSCD
