Well... the Jameson on the rocks ain't hurting either...lol

I wish they made sugar free Gatorade.

They don't make it sugar free, but it is good for hangovers.  It doesn't have the sugar that sodas have.  Damn Jameson though.....that's un-American FatDomDaddy.  I stick to the booze made in Bourbon County.  Yeah that means I don't mess with that bullshit imitator made in Tennessee (Jack Daniels for the teetotalers and uninformed).  Maker's Mark is my medicine.  If I have to be cheap; it's Jim Beam.

I am a Gaelic soul... what can I say,.

Besides, if it wasn't for Capitan Midnight setting up shop in the Appalachians there would be no Bourboun (or Tennesee Sour Mash) in the first place!

I have to stand by the saline irrigation.  I had sinus surgery almost 8 years ago and afterwards, the surgeon gave me a wonderful recipe to moisturize and rinse all the post-op ick out of my head, sinuses, nose, etc.

8 oz. lukewarm distilled water
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. iodized salt

Stir until dissolved.  Use bulb syringe (found in baby product ailse) and squirt solution into each nostril, being sure not to breathe in while squirting, and blowing the solution out (over a sink).  Continue until mixture is gone and blow nose well afterwards, making sure that remaining water/solution is cleared out.  You can do this as often as you like.  I sometimes make 16 oz. worth and rinse till it's gone.  It's also great to get allergens out of your nasal passages in the spring and summer

Happy rinsing and blowing!  [:)]

Oh, FD2, option number 2 is to have someone "beat the snot out of you."  Really just depends on how far you are willing to go to fight this thing.  [;)]

Feel better soon.

What are you doing to combat yours?

Open the tap with a stream of lukewarm water, hold one nostril in it and breathe in and rinse the inside of the nose, repeat with the other nostril, repeat with a handful of soapy water (soap or shampoo). Repeat when required.

Before I switched to soapy water I used to rinse my inside nose with whisky (hurts).

I started getting sick on sunday. I have been running a fever ever since. Maybe zicam would have worked but it didnt come on in the usual fashion. This is your not run of the mill cold. Nyquil and rest.

calamitysandra -> RE: I am dealing with a horrific head cold. (1/29/2008 3:15:11 PM)

Chicken soup with a twist. Add as much hot curry powder as you can stand, or use fresh chillies in the broth. Chicken soup and capsaicin (the stuff that puts the hot in chillies and such) are proven to help with a cold.
Drink, drink, and than drink some more. Staying hydrated is essential. Herbal teas with honey do a good job, but even simple lukewarm water is helpfull.
Get as much sleep as you can.
A hot shower.
If you can stand it, don't try to get rid of the fever. It helps your body fight of the germs. So, let it do its job. (Provided it does not get too high)

Good luck.

Nyquil last night and tonight... the real stuff, the kind the Pharmacists keeps behind the counter and takes down your driver's license info to get. That some left over loritabs and some jameson on the rocks, making life semi liveable.

What are you doing to combat yours?

The Real Stuff?

There's a Pharma Grade Nyquil?

(It's gotta be mixed with Crown Royal and Vicodins).

It's blooming well contagious! I think this can be filed in the 'computer virus' vaults. I hadn't been feeling too good for approx. a week, it has hit me hard today. Chronic headache, neck that feels as if it's going to break if I move it, saliva glands painful, difficult to swallow even drinks, runny eyes and my ears feel as if they've been stuffed full of cotton wool.

What does the sub do? Makes himself pork chops, roast potatoes and veggies, then stuffs his face infront of me! Just wait til I'm better!

CalamitySandra, some years ago I read a study that was released regarding jewish chicken soup and it was supposed to actually have been found to contain medicinal properties. Apparently chicken soup IS good for the soul! If my mother wasn't almost 80 and could travel to me I'd have her making it by the gallon!

Thats for the external symptoms.

For the internal immunity/infection, take FOOD grade (35%) hydrogen peroxide, diluted. It increases oxygen to your blood, and gives you an immune system boost. DILUTE it or you will suffer dire consequences. See below for the link on how to...

It was used during the Spanish influenza of 1918-19, and is highly effective.

But do your homework and see about dilution ratios, and suggested protocol:
http://www.venusproject.com/ethics_in_action/hydrogen_peroxide_therapy.html

I'll note that this is not a corroborated primary source- I have not looked up the journals listed as sources. Do your own research. It has worked for Me in small doses at the beginning of a cold and during a cold (to decrease the time of the illness).

It's the old formula with pseudophedrin (sp?) in it. The regular on the shelf kind (thanks meth labs) is not nearly as good now.

Correct lauren! You win a cookie.

And those friggin' white trash meth heads ruining cold season! A pox on them and the nanny state that stops me from buying cheap pseudoephedrine!!!!

ownedgirlie -> RE: I am dealing with a horrific head cold. (1/29/2008 6:51:32 PM)

I was sick the entire month of December.  It was all cough and lack of energy.  Thinking it was an allergy, I got a steroid shot.  No change.  I had antibiotics.  No change.  I needed an albuterol inhaler for most of the month.  Took high doses of vitamin C, tea, lots of rest, cough medicine with codeine to sleep at night (sometimes after a glass of pinot).  I never do over the counter cold medicine.  Not sure why, but I just don't.

Mr. Wonderful was sick our entire week in Vegas.  I brought my codeine cough medicine and gave it to him at night, after a cup of tea with brandy, lemon and honey.  Also fixed him 2-4 Vitamin C Fizz drinks/day.  Chamomile tea with lemon and honey during the day.  And begged Mr. Die Hard to rest.  Got him a nasal flush, much like the "neti".  Lots of cough drops (from Whole Foods) for when he was out and doing stuff.  Made him an acupuncture appointment a couple of weeks later (his lasted a long time, too), which cleared his sinuses right up.

I'm telling you, FD2...  she was right.  How are you going to argue with a grammy's wisdom?  The recipe I wrote out above rids the sinus cavities of all the crud that gets in there and makes it hard to breathe.  The pH is gentle and it just feels good to get the snot out of your head.  (indirect quote from Thing 1 who decided that it was better to do this than feel like one's head was going to explode every time ya bend over.)

I bought some o'dat stuff back in the early 80's when I had a cold.  I was astounded at how horrible it tasted.

So I wrote a very long, 1 and a half page letter to whoever owned that brand detailing how incredibly vile the stuff was...they sent me a check for like 4 bucks....with a hand written note:  "Well then....don't buy the stuff next time!"

Hahahahahahahaha.
