time to pay cash?

sub4hire -> RE: no swipe credit cards (1/26/2008 9:58:13 PM)

around here it wouldn't be a problem.  Nobody uses credit cards nor accepts them most places.  They are in the ice ages as far as that goes.  They still accept checks.  People write them for a dollar.
What is worse is the jail is filled with check fraud people...yet nobody seems to get a clue.
County offices..etc.  No credit nor debit accepted.
Just cash or check.

pahunkboy -> RE: no swipe credit cards (1/26/2008 10:48:28 PM)

credit of course has a fee to merchant- debit-some do some dont.

sub4hire -> RE: no swipe credit cards (1/27/2008 7:07:40 AM)

Yeah I know.  One of the banks we deal with actually gives us that merchant fee back in the form of a cash back card.  So the bank urges us to use it as a credit card (the atm I mean)
Problem is unless you are in a large store..nobody accepts it.

There are actually commercials on around here saying use your atm and credit cards..it's the thing to do.  Stop writing those checks.

So it's way worse than we all thought.

I hate to get too cerebral on a Sunday morning but here goes anyway.

Why ? Well the development of such technology is driven by a desire to fuel the economy. Since they know that you will buy on impulse, and control damnear everything you see and hear, and know that you are vulnerable to such advertising, they figure it would be better if you just put the item on the counter and don't even have to get your card out.

You see getting that card out might make you realie you just bought something, making you less likely to impulse buy at the next store. And this doesn't surprise me a bit.

They want to fuel the economy so much that they want to take your bill money right out of your bank account. That fuels the economy by leading to higher earnings of the utility compnies and other service providers who get paid monthly. They can slip all kinds of extra charges on you which you would've balked at if you had to write them a check. But this way they already got your money, now you have to fight them to get it back.

You don't want me to go much farther than that. To see the world as I do is no fun. The greed that drives society is amazing, it has exceeded all expectations.

Get this in your head, and I will leave you with this final thought - everything they do, they do to make more money. It is their job. That is why change, which used to be good, is now bad.

I go now, before this turns into a socio-political rant. Of course these are things that need to be said, but not right here and now. I am tired of being the worst hijacker on the board.

I agree.   However I grew up in an atm society.  I would rather use my atm than any credit card any day of the week.  At least it is coming out of my bank account now.
Hey...I used my atm as a down payment on the car we just bought...so you could say I'm pro atm.
I also don't like to stand around and wait 20 minutes in a store to check out.  It always amazes me when someone decides to write a check for a pack of gum.  They can't even start writing it before it is all rang up.  No store name...no signature..nothing.
They wait until it is all over...then start writing out the check.
Those are the times I have issues with people in general.  You're at the mini mart trying to get a receipt for your gas purchase and someone decided to write a check for a 20 ounce soda....I have little patience.

lot of people do not realize it but there is like a 3% charge on all credit card transactions.  Of course businesses just tack that on to ALL products in the store assuming that most will pay with a cc so even those paying cvash are being penalized.

we have a couple serive stations here that NO LONGER accept credit cards and they are nearly 10cents cheaper than everyone else and there is always a long line at their pumps!

funny enuff my visa card is wore out. it is annoying that i cant use it.  the i-pass on the tollways - i hear comment that the tolls are slipping in where you did not realise there was any.

as far as money goes- counting out cash-  makes you think. i had $30 on me- my visa didnt work at teh grovcery store- the purhcase was $32.ish.  seeing that- $30 is so paultry....

yet go around with $100 bills clerks get all fidgety and can barely make change on a 50.

ive been studying the pros and cons of RFID since i got into computers, i mean there are alot of good uses for the technology but even more dangers to using it, its like the new cell phone hacking problem that have been going on for a little over a year now
