In the spring of 2000, Brock Lesnar was a University of Minnesota senior, just two weeks and a handful of workouts away from the NCAA Division I wrestling tournament.

Today, the 30-year-old Lesnar finds himself in a similar situation as he trains for his match against former Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight champion Frank Mir in the most publicized debut in UFC history.

The former “Next Big Thing” of pro wrestling has become ultimate fighting's next gigantic question mark, a 1-0 fighter with 69 seconds of ring experience thrown into the deep end of a shark-infested pool.

Whether he's in over his head remains to be seen, but the reason he's being billed as the semi-main event of UFC 81 on Feb. 2 in Las Vegas is because of his fame as a former World Wrestling Entertainment champion.

I think there might be some pissed UFC fighters.

Yeah, I imagine so; wasn't there a boxer that talked smack about going over there a while back? Whitaker maybe? They didn't like that.

I remember Tyson thought about joining K-1 or Pride a long while back.

I gotta admit, i'm curious about how Lesnar will do.

If my memory serves me correctly, didn't he also try out for the Vikings or Packers?

I think he'll get his ass kicked.
I know someone that used to fight in underground no holds barred matches down in Puerto Rico.  That stuff gets viscious.

If only the UFC was like that....

well, anymore at least.

They had a good show on MSNBC a couple of nights ago, on the history of UFC. Lots of  interviews with Dana White, and some brutal clips.

Okay, it was Floyd Mayweather that ruffled some feathers over there. Google is my friend. [:D]

Yep, here's a link:

Working in Lesnar's favor is the expansion of NFL practice squads from five to eight this season. Both the Indianapolis Colts and the Minnesota Vikings worked out Lesnar this month, though neither team has signed him.

I didn't care for his commentary on gay people, but to each his own, I guess.

Rumtiger -> RE: Former pro wrestler goes to UFC (1/23/2008 4:04:23 AM)

I wonder why he only was with Miletich for a week....for an up and comer of his star power and physical ability it dosent make sense why he would go to Minnesota, eccspecially when he actually got praise from Pat himself.

sub4hire -> RE: Former pro wrestler goes to UFC (1/23/2008 6:39:37 AM)

I know little of either.  My father was a WWF fan so I took him to a few matches before he passed away.  Real phony stuff.  We were always right next to the ring...I guess they add the sounds to it later.

The UFC, it has been a controversy here among some friends of ours.  Their kid (17) wants to give up school to join the UFC.  Dad is against it..mom signed the waiver.
Apparently you can get killed in the UFC?

So, yeah someone leaving the WWF and going to the UFC...WHY?

Owner59 -> RE: Former pro wrestler goes to UFC (1/23/2008 7:42:55 AM)

He is soooooooo going to get his ass kicked.

Going from the fakest,to one of  the most brutal combat arts.

Reality is going to sting and hurt.

DomKen -> RE: Former pro wrestler goes to UFC (1/23/2008 8:13:42 AM)

A friend who is a big WWF fan says Lesnar got booted due to not being able to control himelf in the ring. Pictures sure make him look like a roid user. I'm guessing he will get beat up pretty bad and go wrestle in Japan or similiar.
