Oh, hells no [:'(]

Marc2b -> RE: Okay...admit it... (1/16/2008 9:04:44 PM)

Nope. Don’t watch it. Not my cup of tea. You’re more likely to find me on the Discovery channel or the History channel, or maybe the Sci-Fi channel (that's if I'm watching TV at all). I’ve a general dislike of the so called "reality"shows in general. The only two that ever peaked my interest were Ice Road Truckers and the one with that British chef who likes to scream at everybody. I remember checking American Idol out when it first started (seems a while ago) and thinking it was nothing more than an updated version of the Gong Show (as to why I ever watched the Gong Show in the first place I can only plead youth). But, to each their own. If you enjoy it, more power to you.

faerytattoodgirl -> RE: Okay...admit it... (1/16/2008 9:08:58 PM)

yes well i dont watch reality either...but this show is not scripted for one....which means anything can happen and the auditions are funny to watch.

things like amazing race, fear factor...that stuff i wont watch.

the only other show i am watching now is terminator...its actually better than what i thought it would be.  just i dont think it will last more than 1 or 2 seasons..

popeye1250 -> RE: Okay...admit it... (1/16/2008 9:18:05 PM)

No interest in that crap.
Why do all the singers on that show "warble?"
I watch the History Channel and now I'm watching Jay Leno.
Earlier I was checking out some videos on Youtube of Sinead O'Connor.
Boy she has a powerful voice!

lablancsecret -> RE: Okay...admit it... (1/16/2008 9:43:11 PM)

Oh yeah,Gordon Ramsay and Hell's Kitchen... that man is amazing.

(He just screams Dom to me. But thats so secondary. I enjoy the fact that he can tell it like it is.)

PanthersMom -> RE: Okay...admit it... (1/16/2008 10:07:50 PM)

nah, dvd's, scifi channel, discovery channel, history channel, speed tv, that's about it around here.  no reality shows thank you, life is enough reality for me, i don't need someone else's.  american idol strikes me as being nothing more than an elaborate game show.

No. did I say No?

I was subject (unwillingly) to a review of the show on a morning "news" show and she actually had a good voice, and she claimed to be awake for 70ish hours and did not realize what she was doing doing untill it was done.

Feric -> RE: Okay...admit it... (1/17/2008 2:10:42 AM)

No way! American Idol is the personification of Trash TV; exploitation of people's hopeless aspirations with hired media gurus, coupled with money-changers and flatterers who build up untalented schmoes and then let them crash & burn for other people's entertainments.

I have never watched a single episode of AI, and I never will. There are perhaps only 2-3 TV shows I watch with any regularity. The rest of my time is spent reading quality literature. My current project is "The American", by Henry James. All the culture I could possibly want, without interruptions from singing cat food commercials or slick lawyers in polyester suits begging me to hire them to pursue a frivolous lawsuit.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: Okay...admit it... (1/17/2008 5:12:25 AM)

yes i do watch Amercian Idol and critique every contestant they show auditioning

Hell's Kitchen is also a good show to watch when Idol season is over

breatheasone -> RE: Okay...admit it... (1/17/2008 5:15:02 AM)

YES...yes, ok...are you happy?? and I talk about the tonal quality of the singers, like I know what the fuck I'm talking about...LMAO
Edited to add: I watch 3, yes really, just 3 tv shows,.American Idol, Boston Legal.....Medium. Thats it.....and I will turn on the Fox News Channel at other times.

mhawk -> RE: Okay...admit it... (1/17/2008 5:43:24 AM)

actually i haven't watched any of the reality tv shit since the first Survior came out.  i think it's all just even more of a waste of time than the usual crime shows or anything like that. its actually rare the W/we watch any tv at all.

machiavelli4110 -> RE: Okay...admit it... (1/17/2008 5:49:31 AM)

Reality TV is mental masturbation, in the end unsatisfying.

kittinSol -> RE: Okay...admit it... (1/17/2008 6:01:29 AM)

It baffles me that our popular culture has made public humiliation such a pinnacle of the entertainment business.

And that so many millions buy into it.

lockmeupplease -> RE: Okay...admit it... (1/17/2008 6:02:07 AM)

I have to admit to watching "Idol" and other shows where people humiliate themselves because I just can't keep away from proverbial train wrecks.  My current favorite guilty pleasures featuring morons embarrassing themselves are on VH1---Rock of Love, Tila Tequila, etc....

DrDoo -> RE: Okay...admit it... (1/17/2008 6:06:35 AM)

you gotta be kidding...we also get American Idol here as well as our own Pop Idol and the X-Factor...i have seen enough (forced by my gay boy son to watch on occasion) to know watching such deluded folks making fools of themselves is not entertainment.

i'm a singer and can't bear hearing the wibbly warbling (whitney has much to answer for!!) fitting in as many notes in one phrase style of singing that is prevalent on these shows.

Ramsey on the other hand is a gourmand god! [;)]

ravennfyre -> RE: Okay...admit it... (1/17/2008 6:33:10 AM)

Not me...You KNOW they handpick contestants who can't carry a tune in a bucket with two hands so the judges can tear them apart...I hate reality shows....

Lowest common denominator.

Shows you how powerful the emotion of humiliation is, and apparently it is by and large consensual...........

We could go on reality shows and do nasty things with each other and the result would be the same.

That's the one. But WHY?! Why do people like that sort of thing? How is it that the lowest common denominator always seems to win? I ask rhetorically... I know the answer, unfortunately :-( .

Still, I think there's a morality attached to aesthetics, and I believe shows such as the one we're discussing flaunt an ugliness that's definitely a mild form of evil [8D] .
