cyberdude611 -> Huckabee is a religious nut (1/16/2008 12:28:51 PM)

His true colors are finally coming out....

"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution," Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. "But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do — to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view."

This could be what derails his campaign.

It doesn't take much to derail a train with MATTEL stamped on it.  Huckabee doesn't have a prayer in the primary, never mind the general election.  At this point, it'll be a tossup between Romney and Giuliani.  Considering how little Giuliani's actually campaigned, I'd put my guess with Romney vs Obama.  I'm guessing in that matchup, odds are we'll have our first black president.  If Clinton wins the Dem's ticket, my guess is Romney would take her.

Mormons have some very rigid religious beliefs themselves.  I doubt there is much difference in what you would get with Huckabee or Romney.

Compassionate consevertive-ism.   hmmp.

i have yet to see anyone deserving of my vote.  i think it's going to come down to me voting for someone just to keep the front runners from getting my vote.  it won't matter much, but i'll feel better knowing i didn't line up like a duck and follow a party line.

Really, between Hucka and Romney, the Republicans are well served with religious nuttiness representation.

What's incredible to me is that these people actually make their religious feelings a matter of pride. Now, I don't think there's anything wrong with having such feelings, but I simply don't see what the fuck they have to do with governing the country.

Can't they keep their Bibles and Books of Moron under lock and key, just for the period of the election [X(] ?

DomKen -> RE: Huckabee is a religious nut (1/16/2008 3:35:22 PM)

What's the big deal? GOP pols since at least Reagan have been promising the RR the same thing. He's talking about two ammendments that were called for in the 2004 GOP platform and likely enough will be in the platform this year as well.

Huckabee will win the evangelical vote baring one of his simmering scandals actually getting into the far right media and that means he will be the GOP nominee.

BTW...

Ya' all know....

Huck's a liberal right????

Evangelicals are on the whole pretty liberal except for abortion and homosexuality.

seeksfemslave -> RE: Huckabee is a religious nut (1/16/2008 3:51:37 PM)

The link didnt work for me so I dont know whether any particular part of the Constitution was mentioned.....but...is it not taking a fundamentalist view of it to say that it should never be changed.

I assume Huckerbee did not say he would kill anybody if they didnt agree with him ? What I have seen of him on YouTube I like.!

Even tho' I am as kinky as the next person, well some anyway, I  believe that  unrestrained permissiveness has proved a disaster.

[sm=hello.gif] to all the perves on CM lol

kittenSol...the fact that both Romney and Huckabee don't try to hide what they are is part of why I have at least some respect for them.

Obama on the other hand was talking out of both sides of his mouth on the issue in an interview I saw a month ago.

To me to be anything other than what and how you claim to be is a lie.  Both Huckabee and Romney stand up and say how they feel and the role religion plays in their lives.   Now matter what you might claim in a political speech those beliefs and the emotions connected to them are not something that you turn on and off like a faucet.   They are part and parcel of who you are and how you think about things.  They are part of how you weigh the choices you make, the morality of the things you decide.

I'd a whole lot rather deal with someone who is sure about who they are than someone who goes with whichever way the wind blows.

kittinSol -> RE: Huckabee is a religious nut (1/16/2008 6:04:06 PM)

I don't think they deserve a medal for 'not hiding their religion': they're guilty of the opposite. I'm mesmerised by the fact that these particular presidential candidates feel it's necessary to push forth their religious appartenance as if it were relevant to the job of leading the country.

I still don't understand why they think anybody should give a toss what church they attend on Sundays.

Amaros -> RE: Huckabee is a religious nut (1/16/2008 6:26:55 PM)

It's not "ammending", it's overthrowing - it amounts to an attempt to overthrow the Constitutional republic of the United states and relace it with a theocratic oligarchy.

It called Dominionism and/or Reconstructionism, google it.

kittinSol -> RE: Huckabee is a religious nut (1/16/2008 6:43:04 PM)

That's a really interesting link - the problem with these religions is that they are essentially proselytising. One of the fundamental beliefs, or mission statement, of Christianity, is that one has to go forth and procrea... sorry, convert, non-believers.

It's just yawnworthy, and it has nothing, NOTHING to do with an election in a democracy. I'm surprised the electorate doesn't actually penalise these people for their trumpeting of their personal and intimate and highly private religious beliefs.

Rant over - for now [:D] .

Bush became president largely due to biased decisions by Catherine Harris.

Assuming the level of intolerance displayed above doesn't extend to everybody with different spiritual beliefs than your own, it's hardly reasonable to equate Huckabee and Romney on the religious front.  One is a religious nutcase, the other belongs to a faith religious nutcases hate.

The only people who give a rats ass about Romney being a Mormon are the very same Fundy Christians "Huck" charms the pants off.  To them, the LDS church is a dangerous cult, and definitely NOT Christian.  Outside that group, the Mormons are just another protestant sect, with some different mythology and maybe a little better at walking the walk.

Outside of the Huck supporters, nobody really cares where Romney got his sunday school.

If he should get that win in SC, I may have to start watching the local news for the fight Rudy would give him in CA.

Isn't that a major asset in a Republican primary? [:)]
