A bit of sad news for you goth/corset training fans... Maila Nurmi, aka "Vampira" has passed away at age 83. Ms. Murmi was best known for a late night horror hostess show in the L.A. area in the 1950's. (You can still view the opening of the show on You Tube) To fetishists, she was an icon for those into corset training. In her prime, she was able to cinch her waist down to an amazing 13 inches... (slightly smaller than a 2 liter bottle) She passed away in her sleep at her home. Being an active supporter of PETA, she left a request that donations be made to that organization in her memory.

Ah, it's too bad. Bless her.

She was a classic icon of her own making, daring, for her time.

Lets not forget that she also starred in one of Ed Woods' horror movies and she was the inspiration for Elvira a decade or so later.

True. She played the undead wife of Bela Lugosi in the "worst film of all time" (according to Michael Medved anyway) "Plan 9 From Outer Space." She played the part mute. Still, you have to admit, she's be a smash at a play party with that figure and feirce makeup... Yes, she was the inspiration for Elvira, although she called it plagerisim. (She actually sued Cassandra Peterson for stealing her act, but lost.)

Indeed, Ms. Nurmi/Vampira had a right to make claims. Cassandra Peters aka Elvira actually called on Vampira, who had hosted a horror movie night on television, much earlier, and consulted with her about doing another such show. Ms. Peters then proceeded to produce a new version of Vampira's gig herself, a recognizable imitation of Vampira's image and her act, leaving Vampira completely out of it. People have successfully made claims for less.
