lockmeupplease -> Chat requests (minor rant) (1/12/2008 7:08:55 AM)

This morning I received two chat request at different times.  Both times I accepted, but the CM chat function is very slow and conversation was difficult.  Both times the other party actually became angry!  I apologized, explained that the chat was freezing up and politely suggested alternatives. (Yahoo, AIM, e-mail).  Both times, the other party typed something unpleasant and ended the chat.

What is wrong with these people???  (ok--rant over)

Lots of online folks consider such displays of impatience to be emblematic of their Dominance.  I am quite in awe, aren't you?

Big baby syndrome? One would think that will so many having CM chat difficuties; they would already have an alternate venue ready. I think common sense and manners do well in that circumstance.

Honestly, I've always preferred Email. I like to take my time, finish my thoughts, maybe even rework a sentence if it's not clear enough. I also get very annoyed when I am interrupted. You can walk away from Email and its still there an hour later, waiting patiently for your reply. The other person's response might take a few minutes, or a few days, but that's okay. Email understands that you have a life of your own, and will wait patiently for you in it's little electronic cubby hole until you are ready to read it. The only way it could be any more civilized is if it were to use pen and paper - but who would do a silly thing like that?

I was torn between being offended and immediately stripping and falling to my knees [:D]

Not everyone's computer works well with the Java code that CM's Chat engine works with. And there are alternatives, like the chat application for Yahoo and the one for AOL.

Most people who wish to chat are interested in one of several things:

  • Wank material.
  • Instant gratification and/or a very fast way to get to know someone better.
  • Something more akin to conversation than e-mail.

I'm not a huge fan of chat and will use it when requested. But I tend to not have tons of time to chat. I do hope those with whom I have chatted understand that.

SeanForrester -> RE: Chat requests (minor rant) (1/12/2008 7:24:23 AM)

Impatience, particualrly rude impatience, is, to an immature mind, a demonstration of mastery.   However, under these circumstances it's also a demonstration of technical ignorance and communications incompetence.

Quite frankly, these people have demonstrated, quite adequately, the fact that they are rude, ignorant, incomtetent and probably fictitious, so you shouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

Leatherist -> RE: Chat requests (minor rant) (1/12/2008 7:27:52 AM)

Seems to be par for the course with many online "masters"

Probably due to thier parents failing to install "net nanny" programs.

Absolutely! The few times I have been inveigled into 'chat', whether on CM, Yahoo or other media, I have come away feeling, that's another half-hour/hour wasted. If I need the immediacy I will use an old-fashioned phone.

And yes, I have responded to a persistent person demanding instant responses with an old-fashioned letter, by second-class post, as deliberate (but hopefully not rude) irony. Had I had a quill pen handy I would have used it ...

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: Chat requests (minor rant) (1/12/2008 7:52:58 AM)

another good reason why i avoid/decline chat requests - CM's chat program runs too slow on my computer

sexyred1 -> RE: Chat requests (minor rant) (1/12/2008 7:56:34 AM)

people always ask to chat via CM and then their chat does not work, and they get upset at ME. funny how that works.

lateralist1 -> RE: Chat requests (minor rant) (1/12/2008 9:07:00 AM)

Rudeness, impatience etc are not dominant or submissive they are about personality.
I have had similar problems with submissives.
Presumably they are expecting me to control them from the get go.
Tough.
If they can not converse with me in a civilised manner from the outset why would I want to even talk to them?
I dominate who I chose to dominate I really don't need someones agreement unless I am dominating in a way that could be seen as breaking the law.
However lots of BDSM submissive people are very good at doing the same.
Often better than I am lol.
It really depends on the lengths to which you are prepared to go.
My best quote from a submissive so far is 'I expect you to chose my meals'

i find it amazing how much of this goes on....i'm starting to get really tired of pissy replies from so called "doms" when i don't give my whole life story to them or devote myself to them in my first response to them.  they need to go piss in their own corners, i'm trying to keep mine clean and friendly.  give me the guy who called me godzilla anyday over what i'm getting this morning, at least he was entertaining and amusing!

Perhaps I'm only kidding myself, but I simply consider that a fact.  Just like saying that lots of folks enjoy floggings.

There is a difference between judging an individual based upon the fact that they belong to a certain group, and judging one's behavior.  In the first instance, you're not judging the individual, you're judging them based upon perceptions of the group.  In the second instance (as is the case in the OP), the individual is being judged based upon their own behavior.

It's funny. :)

I do a little maintenance for my parent's computers, and when my mother attempts to access a website with broken code, or can't access it at all, she thinks her system is busted and I need to fix it. I get the strong impression that she can't tell the difference between using software and information on her system and using stuff on the web and insists that I do something about problem websites. It's frustrating as hell, and she often believes that I'm being a jerk when I tell her there's nothing I can do. :)

The complaint about the chat system is very similar in this respect. It's amazing how many people don't realize that the users have very little to do with it's performance.

HalloweenWhite -> RE: Chat requests (minor rant) (1/12/2008 9:51:54 AM)

That's just the way some people are, there are people in r/l like that too-want what they want when they want it. On the other hand they may have thought you were just messing about but you cant be sure unless they tell you of course.

There'll be other chat invitations to accept. Just forget it and move on.

MistressSue07 -> RE: Chat requests (minor rant) (1/12/2008 10:54:15 AM)

Personally the java chat feature here freezes my laptop 90% of the time, so I disabled the accept chat requests feature. I use yahoo most of the time for casual talk.
