Status: offline 		I,m just pissed because it go's bad so quickly once opened.

Hey I know soy is the most chemically capable plant for bonding with other chemicals, but seriously WTF? Its not like I have many options, and i,d enjoy not trying to eat my morning cereal with tofu.

Status: offline 		What soy milk are you drinking?  I drink it daily and never has it ever gone bad on me.  On top of that it generally has at least a month shelf life.
I'm a believer in Eden Soy.

Status: offline 		I like Silk soy milk - have never had it go bad on me. At least here, is in dairy case by the organic milk, etc. And thanks for the tofu image:)

Status: offline 		I buy Silk and 8th Continent depending which has a better price. When it is on sale I stock up. Right now I have 6 bottles of 8th Continent in there and it is just me. They all have a sell by date of March 18th or 19th, so thats nearly 2 months of shelf life unopened. I have only had soymilk go bad on me once and that was because I had cows milk too that I was working on. However that was after nearly 3 weeks of being opened. That is a heck of a lot better than normal cows milk which is bad after a week.

Status: offline 		If, for whatever reason your grocery store is not rotating it properly contact the manager.

If all else fails you can make your own.

I haven't tried that but I have contemplated it.  The farmer here next door is planting soy in the spring and he said I could have some if I wanted to try.
It could be interesting.

Status: offline 		I buy Silk and once open it stays fresh for at least ten days. One note, I went to their site because I was curious about it being okay if left out on the counter. According to them, in regards to the refridgerated type for every hour it is left on the counter it loses a day of freshness.I also buy their boxed soy from the dry foods aisle, that has a very long shelf life before opening but I swear it doesn't taste quite the same. For those with an auto immune issue such as Fibro or Lupus soy milk is NOT recommended. (Yeah I drink it, I cannot abide real milk. Heh I don't like cheese either. The only dairy I like is icecreammmmmmmm).

Status: offline 		My UMs drink Silk, when I have to use milk for myself I use rice milk, never liked the soy stuff, course found out monday I cant have Soy anything anymore, so..shrugs...but, never had the Silk stuff go bad. Of course, my UMs usually go through the stuff too fast for it to even have a chance!

Status: offline 		ghita can you recommend a good rice milk? I've never tried that and I really do need to move off of soy. I don't drink it often but I love to have a bowl of cereal a few times a week and use it occasionally in cooking. Does rice milk 'behave' if it is cooked in a recipe?

Status: offline 		Camille, we drink rice dream here, they have the origional and vanilla flavors just like soy milk does. Ive never tried to cook with it, but some of the new vegan recipies Ive downloaded over the past few days call for making breads and stuff with rice milk. I would definantly try with the actual rice milk, not the flavored stuff. If you can find it, our local health food store carries it, Rice Dream makes REALLY fucking good ice cream.

If and when you go through menopause soy actually mimicks estrogen in the body so you may want to make a move back to soy.
It is the only chemical thus far that is as good as it is for the body in terms of estrogen replacement.
Lots of other stuff helps but nothing helps as good as soy.
Of course I'm saying this now because it is the newest evidence...something new will come along soon.

I do like tha vanilla lactade though.

Status: offline 		Soy milk is a better medium for mold growth than animal milk.  If your soy milk is going bad quickly you might want to check to see if you have any "biology experiments" hiding lurking in an abandoned corner of the fridge.

Agreed, I have never had Silk go bad on me even when I thought to myself ''it's probably bad by now but I'll check before I dump it out.'' I find Edensoy to be a bit thin for me and 8th Continent is okay but I usually go with Silk.

Have you tried vanilla Silk? It isn't brown at least not that I have ever seen.

Hi EvilGenie

My carton says…Plain Silk Soymilk…and it looks more like eggnog then milk. Maybe the difference is in the plain and vanilla labeling.

Status: offline 		Gee Butch I don't know. I don't regularly use the plain but the vanilla is fairly white though. It isn't as yellowy as eggnog by far. Also for my money, nothing beats Silk chocolate and is much more satisfying than regular chocolate milk by a long shot. You should be able to get a sort of single serve size of the Silk vanilla in a plastic bottle, refridgerated in the natural foods area ''dairy'' case. I'd buy a small bottle, which I did do, before buying a big carton. Don't go for the boxes in the grocery aisles though as they do taste different and if not used to the taste it will put you off. They are Ultra Heat Pasturized which causes an almost cooked flavor to happen.

Status: offline 		i drink hemp milk (yes, it exists. i know). it has a nutty flavour to it but it's nice and creamy and goes really well with granola/cereal/etc.

Rule of thumb, for ME, when I open it, I plan on using it
or throwing it out after about 3-4 days.
