During a town hall meeting in Derry, New Hampshire last night, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) told a crowd of roughly two hundred people that it “would be fine with” him if the U.S. military stayed in Iraq for “a hundred years“:

Q: President Bush has talked about our staying in Iraq for 50 years — (cut off by McCain)
McCAIN: Make it a hundred.
Q: Is that … (cut off)
McCAIN: We’ve been in South Korea … we’ve been in Japan for 60 years. We’ve been in South Korea 50 years or so. That would be fine with me. As long as Americans …
Q: [tries to say something]
McCAIN: As long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed. That’s fine with me, I hope that would be fine with you, if we maintain a presence in a very volatile part of the world where Al Queada is training and equipping and recruiting and motivating people every single day.

What the difference? The Democrats arnt planning on leaving either... Hillary said she would leave the troops in there until at least 2013.

The only people that have said they would pull the troops out now are long-shots like Kucinich, Richardson, and Ron Paul.

Gotta give him credit for candor!

That`s not true and you can`t find a quote of her saying that.

Clean it up....

Edwards, Hillary, and Obama were all asked back in September if they would pledge to withdrawl troops if they were elected....

"I think it's hard to project four years from now," said Sen. Barack Obama
"It is very difficult to know what we're going to be inheriting," added Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton
"I cannot make that commitment," said former Sen. John Edwards

What you said....

"Hillary said she would leave the troops in there until at least 2013".

What she said (when asked about pulling troop out of Iraq)

"It is very difficult to know what we're going to be inheriting," added Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York.

Why the mis-representation?

She never said what you claimed.

You obviously dont speak politicianese...

OrionTheWolf -> RE: McCain,US should stay in Iraq,for 100 years,or a 1000 (1/6/2008 10:33:30 PM)

""In a September debate, she said that she could not commit to getting our troops out in five years, let alone in one year."

"
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- If elected president, Sen. Hillary Clinton said, she would likely keep some U.S. forces in Iraq in a supporting role after 2009 because America has "a remaining military as well as a political mission" that requires a presence there. "

"June 11, 2007 · Democrats are telling voters that if they are elected, all U.S. troops will be pulled out of Iraq. But as Sen. Hillary Clinton privately told a senor military adviser, she knows there will be some troops there for decades. It's an example of how in some cases, politics can force dishonesty."

Come on, you cannot be that bad at research. The three above took only five minutes to find.

Ya`ll know what the original question was,and what was meant by it,when the guy asked McCain "how long are we going to be in Iraq"

I`ll translate, for the needy....

The guy fuck`n meant,~how long are our GIs going to be dying by the score,in Iraq~.How long is this killing/terrorist-making machine going to run?

When is this nightmare, going to end?

Not stupid comparisons to Japan and Korea, that obfuscate and avoid the question.

McCain knew exactly what the guy meant, and played footsie, with a long cheviot about staying only if our troops were safe.Isn`t he supposed to be the straight talker, ride`n the "Straight Talk Express".

All Hillary said, was  that she wouldn`t commit to anything,b/c she didn`t know what she would find.An honest answer, considering, lol, what she`s going to find,if she wins the white house.

Cyberdude took that and turned it into "staying past 2013."

Why is the right, putting words into her mouth?

Why are you guys repeating the silly spin, from the right?

What`s wrong with going with what she said?

I will....

Obama, Clinton and Edwards said in a debate three months ago that while they plan to end the war in Iraq, they cannot guarantee pulling out all U.S. combat troops by the end of the next presidential term in 2013. They say some troops would have to stay to protect the American Embassy or for other duties. Richardson has said that's not really ending the war.

Don't need it translated from socialism, I understand quite well.

Are you sure? Do you have ESP? I have seen people ask that question and mean anything from what you state, to more specifically how long will any soldiers be there in any capacity.

I doubt it is going to end any time soon, though I truly wish it would.

Actually that is a valid answer, if you look long term, and believe that all the policticians will want some type of US presense there.

He is a politician, and none of them straight talk all of the time.

When I read 2013, I added 5 to 2008, and then remembered her comment I read about 5 years as a time frame.

This is information I got from Obama's and Edward's stuff. Are they right wing under cover agents?

It is because she has very few firm positions on anything, and appears to say whatever will give her more support. Even Moveon.org is upset with her because she will not take a firm position on Iraq.
