Thanks for your advice on my caps. Like I said its her perogative and yours too. You are entitled to your opinion. This is a post and comment we will.

Is that the royal ‘we’ because I don’t think anyone else really cares to be honest. Now you are saying I’m entitled to my opinion whereas before I wasn’t?

No, wait a minute, he thinks Lady E should wear a burka to get a job?

I employ quite a few burkas in my line of work, but have yet to be worn down by them.

As for the job in Prague, I will let Jesus  words speak for me, with some adaptation and to continue the religious/cultural theme - "no one gets a boob job and hides it under a burkha".

The author makes two good cases for jobs which women may not be suited for.  However, some women may be, so it would have to be a case-by-case basis.

Such as, no, a 100-pound woman is not suited for police duty.  (Hell, I could overpower a 100-lbs. woman with my index finger.  At that weight, there's hardly any muscle!)  But what about a 230-lbs. body builder?  Sure, large, strong women are rare.. but, for those who are in such a position and able to perform as a man would, she shouldn't be discriminated against just because she shares a gender that isn't usually as fit.

Pregnancy in office is something I think can be a big deal.  Hypothetically, we have a female president and she's pregnant.  Do NOT sugar coat this.  Pregnant women are, biologically, hormonal.  Even if someone experiencing these hormones and keep their composure, their hormones are still strongly influcing their thought processes.  This can be fine for many things, but for a president?  No, that's too dangerous.  I do not want violently fluxing hormones running this country.  Nor am I comfortable with the idea of a sitting president out on maternity leave.

Perhaps, though, the answer isn't in barring women from office or police duty.  I would suggest, instead, that police officers be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.  Police officers evaluated this way will likely be more often male, because males are typically stronger, but it wouldn't bar females who are able to perform.  I would also suggest having a regulation against pregnancy while in office.  If the individual wants to hold an office, they have to be committed to it in a responsible manner; pregnancy isn't a responsible manner to high offices.  Still, nothing wrong with a woman holding an office if she approaches it responsibly, just as we expect of males.

In relation to police work;
God made man, I believe they say, but Sam Colt made man equal.
"we'd prefer to have more women in the unit; they tend to be better at handling negotiation you know?" (direct quote from the head of firearms training, West Mercia Constabulary)

In relation to government;
If we're to hold that pregnancy will detract from effort and concentration on the job, then what of appointing a senior citizen as vice president who seems to be in and out of hospital all the while, and presumably is on some pretty heavy medication?

Just another insecure little boy who fears women and wants to force them back into the kitchens so he can thump his chest and say "Look at me! I'm the BIG man!".  Its sad really that this mentality is still found in modern civilization. Perhaps one day the human race will progress beyond it, we can only hope.

A pregnant president? What is she? 36?

Men are hormonal too. And they dont really understand how womens hormones affect thinking. On a daily basis, a man is more hormonal because of fluxes and testosterone levels. It clearly does affect policy decisions. There are a lot of wars out there started by men thinking with their dicks.

Im 100 lbs. Gimme a gun and a man isn't going to have an index finger to shake at me.

popeye1250 -> RE: Why not just make her wear a burkha? (12/26/2007 2:16:34 PM)

I think women make great doctors.
But, *most* women wouldn't make good firefighters.
There's a lot of men who wouldn't make good firefighters.
Also, a 100 lbs woman would make a good cop *if* she were trained in some type of the many martial arts.

Speaking as a former police officer, I will say that I have seen 100-120 lb women take down with relative ease men who are twice or more their size.  There are many women at this type who I would gladly have wanted at my back.  There were also more than a few of those male 230 pound weightlifters who weren't worth the scrap iron they pump obsessively and who I wouldn't want anywhere near me in a fight.

Don't judge a book by its cover or a person by their size.

everyone is entitled to an opinion. Unfortunately you were commenting about her character and not the subject of the post. What do you think about this very facinating subject? i would love to hear a comment about that. I am sure you have rich thoughts about pregnant women in the workplace. So please share.

Having worked security at clubs and concerts, when I was younger, there are many times that you will not have a weapon, and need to intimidate a subject into doing something. I imagine there are the same instances in Police work.

There is provision for this in the constitution, if a President is unfit to take care of their duties, then a majority vote of the cabinet can place the powers of the President in the Vice-Presidents hands. Often it is the President that will voluntarily release this authority in the case of surgery and medical conditions.

I don't believe that was directed to me, but rather to the author of the letter to the editor, from Queensbury.

There's a lot of Sour Grapes in NY-20. The incumbent, John Sweeney was one of the terrorists who traveled across state lines to tamper with a federal election, and his campaign self-destructed when the news reports of the Domestic Violence calls to the NY State Police came out 2 weeks prior to the elections. But up until then it looked like a lock for the guy... But then Kristen won and a lot of people who USED TO BE "connected" found themselves "disconnected"

Apart from the keyword burkha this thread has nothing to do with Muslims and I don't believe you read any of it oh Evil one. [:D]

Yes I did read it oh mouthy one. I made my references to say that even in an Islamic country such as Morocco nobody there would be saying what was said regarding this pregnant woman. It was to make a point in the extreme, not necessarily about religion and was regarding older culture's viewpoints on such things as pregnancy. Don't worry about getting it though as I am sure you aren't the first nor will you be the last. [:D]

Perhaps you need to go back and re-read her post. She is completely eloquent in her explanation of her feelings on pregnant women and work.

Thank you

EvilGenie: You speak of what pregnant women may or may not do or how they are treated  in Morocco.
In PC UK they can do anything up to and including assault if not murder their partner.

Its never their fault. I am serious.
