Thanks, Level... except for that "Seahawks" part. You're never going to let go of that silly little wet ball incident, are you?

Ah, I gotcha. I see "undertones" sometimes (from the left, the right, center [:D]) too, but I think Sanity (if that's who caught your eye) is a pretty decent guy, far as I know. Except he likes the Seahawks [:)]

Be well.

Well, the right wing is upset about a general truth, namely that the US armed what became the Taliban to oppose what was once the Northern Alliance (Soviet Alligned back then.)

After the Taliban rose to power, we then had to rearm the Northern Alliance to depose the Taliban.

After a lot of shit and piss, seems we may have been better off with a Soviet client state the whole time. At least under Soviet influence, there was some semblance of secular authority, women's rights, and Western government. Plus, there was one other country around to "hate" besides the USA.

Its entirely plausible 9-11 would never have happened had we left Afghanistan alone.

On the flip side, the debacle of Afghanistan and the failing Soviet economy paved the way for Gorbachev to become General Secretary.

yep, generally the democrats end up having to clean up the crap left us by the republicans... just check your history books... starting with the 1st repubbie conservative

You mean like that wonderfully unecessary conflict that had noting to do with American interests at the time that, the racist, eugenic loving Democrat Woodrow Wilson got is in after running on keeping us out?

Eisenhower got us involved in Viet Nam.What party was he in?emmmmm.....

Always with the revisionist history. Is that cuz the real history is so full of republican failure, that you have to do that?

Just finished watching the History Channel`s story about Charlie Wilson.

How come no one`s heard this story before now? It(the cold war`s end) really did come down to this one man,Charlie Wilson.

http://www.history.com/minisite.do?content_type=Minisite_Generic&content_type_id=57319&display_order=3&mini_id=56715

I heard him admit that he felt partially responsible for the 9/11 attacks,in helping the Mujaheddin. He said ,and I agree, that we(the world community) should have helped the Afghans establish a proper government, after the Soviets left.

So much for, "Conservatives Upset".

There is plenty of Democratic failure to go around as well. Foreign policy has been fucked up for decades, regardless of who the President was at the time. More fucked up at times, than at others. The tit for tat thing is not productive though, and only breeds more division, and politicians on both sides like use divided.

Some where between the two extremes, is the road that will lead us to more success.

The Charlie Wilson thing was discussed in an old philosphy/politics chatroom I used to frequent years ago. I wish I had all of those links, because it was very eye opening.

What I do not understand is that the "Cold War" may be over, but many of those that had power before, still have power now, they just have different methods to try and chieve their goals. Russia really is in a good position to help or harm the US. A Russia/China arrangement could really fuck us. I am all for Ron Paul's ideas as it will help us consolidate for what faces the world in the future. Yeah we have some hard times ahead, no matter what party is in control, but we have to pull back and keep our resources (money) at home and invest in our countries future by spending less, and producing more. Otherwise we are going to lose the warm war.

Leonardo -> RE: Charlie Wilson's War / Conservatives Upset (12/23/2007 9:19:30 AM)

Actually, WWI was an extension of unresolved answers from the 19th century. Wilson didn't get us into WWI, the outrage of the people because of the German attack on the Lusitania (in which Germany had publicly advertised the risks in all major US media at the time) wherein the outrage was due to the deaths of high-society folks (had it been regular working class folks, there would not have been such an outrage).

However, if you check history, you may have correctly then surmised that I was referring my comments to The Great Depression, oh and Viet Nam (if you check your history, you'd find that US involovement started with Eisenhower [a republican, not a democrat] in an effort to protect French and American interests in rubber trees)... and yes, it was escalated under democrats trying to fix our involvement which we had no business being involved in Viet Nam, but once in (hmmm like Iraq's misconstrued premise of quick in and out at first), the problem became how to get out gracefully (hmmm, like Iraq, which I predicted from the very beginning it would be another Viet Nam)...

Oh, and the mess brought on by Tricky Dicky (which republicans still try to make excuses for), which, ironically, brought on an "oil shortage" (funny thing that the only "oil shortages" and price gouging to follow have occured under republican presidential rule)... and brought about another economic recession which would have culminated into another Great Depression had not the safeguards been in place (that were established under FDR [Democrat])...

And then Jimmy Carter had only 4 yrs to attempt to fix the problems left him, whereby then the country elected a bad actor to be a forgetful president who took credit for many of the things already in place under the Carter administration (yes, even the hostage crisis situation).

Then we have another republican president under the "read my lips" fallacy... who was, de facto, the real reason for the Iraq situation we're in now, just daddy bush didn't finish what he started so his son had to try and bail out his reputation.

And, I guess the only thing republicans have to talk about of Democrats... is the topic that keeps coming back up... oooo that Clinton likes sex with women. And republicans don't like sex? Republicans don't have extra-marital sexual encounters? Hmmm. Who's the guy who got busted for being a bathroom bandit? What about the guy who was playing with page boys? Oh, and the catholic preists who like to play with little boys?

Democrats are not perfect. We never have claimed perfection. The point, which whooshed past most folks who practice the "white-hat principle" is that people in glass houses should not throw stones.

The less foreign policy we have the better.
I just don't think that our elected public officials should be getting us involved in the problems of foreign countries.
And spending tens of billions of our Tax Dollars in the process.
This stuff needs to END.
When I vote for a president I'm voting for someone who's going to take care of the U.S. not get us involved in foreign countrie's problems.
All these politicians keep saying, "we're not the world's policeman, *but*"
I agree and there's no room for any "buts".
And there's no room in the White House for anyone who thinks they're going to be a "world leader."
"That's not part of the job description, Big Guy."
And this Imperialism that we've had under Bush and Clinton needs to end too.
In all the polls when asked if America is headed in "the right direction over the last 15 years" the answer is a resounding "NO!"
Look at all these so-called "Trade Deals."
They're not actually "trade deals" they're "Outsourcing Deals."
They're actually "Treaties" but the people in Washington don't want to call them "Treaties" because,..................that would require a 2/3 vote in the Senate which they KNOW they can't get!
So, they label them "Trade Deals" instead of "Treaties" and the 2/3 vote in the Senate is bypassed!
Even the globalists in the U.S. State Dept. admit that these "Trade Deals" meet all five criteria for a "Treaty."
This is the kind of corruption that happens when business and corporations get involved in forming our legislation.
Make no mistake about it, companies and corporations are out to fuck you up the ass and to break it off.
The next president should immediately nullify every single one of these so-called "Trade Deals."
