Lucky

be careful when reading a corporations BS.  BP claims to be the largest solar cell producer in North America- not sure that's true if we now count Nanosolar.  However, the market leader in solar cell production globally is Sharp- I think.  China and Taiwan have ramped up capacity quickly- so the market is fluid.  But BP's solar cell production is certainly second tier at best.  Note the distinction between solar cells- and solar modules- solar modules are what the cells go in.  BP may well be a leader in modules- I don't follow that very closely.  But I'd be surprised if it's not a company in Germany, because they have the largest solar installation going at this point- with Japan in second.

You may be surprised, but the number living off-grid is growing. Most people off-grid are very aware of the environmental impact of oil related products. While there is a higher upfront cost, most solar panels come with a 25 year warranty. They are built to last. The upkeep is minimal. The inverters usually last 10-15 years and batteries 7-10 years. The number of people living off-grid will double in the next few years. There is a huge growth in grid-tie systems as well.
