ORIGINAL: PanthersMom as i understand it, the vaccine protects against only 4 of the strains of HPV that can cause cervical cancer in the first place. there are 40. do we go with the crapshoot and hope we're covered, or subject our children to possibly useless and ineffective exposure, and possibly side effects that could be even more disasterous later on? seems like it's just not enough of a benefit to risk ratio for me. PM Actually, as I recall , there are 40 (or so) HPV strains, 15 (or so) or which may cause, or are linked to Cervical Cancer (or pre-cancerous leisions), and the Vaccine only prevents 4 of the strains. I was struck, immediatly, by the ad campange. If the came up with a real cure for cancer, would they have to do such a 'hard sell' with it?
