Yeah that's going to keep happening more and more. It really sucks, but most of the media outlets are owned by corporations now. I remember when I was a kid, and there were several UHF stations that were locally owned with local programming. The newspapers were all locally owned, and so were the radio stations. I was a kid in the 1980's, so that wasn't that long ago. I always thought it was kind of neat when you traveled to other towns and got to see the different local programming on television. It's not like that for the most part anymore. Television programming is the same everywhere you go, because the stations are all owned by the same people. It's awful, it really is.

I wonder- if someone tried to sell me cable today- what the pitch would be. Is it me, it seems the commercials are even more frequent then say a month ago. It is like paying to see mainly commercials. Funny enough when I complained of this to my psychiatrit- he diagnosed me as ADHD,

There isnt too much left to consolidate. Now these same forces are trying to harness the Internet.

I love the way the FCC invited comment, and then ignored the overwhelming consensus that it's a Bad Thing.

ah - but you misunderstand the meaning of consultation. We've been educated to understand in the UK, that when we're consulted, its to make sure we're given the impression of being listened to prior to whatever it is being done anyway.

The new leader of the 3rd political party here was elected yesterday (my party). He promised to go out to the people and listen to their concerns. Except that he wouldnt be swayed from his own views regardless, and would tell people why they were wrong to have such concerns and why his view was correct. Same principle. Still, it has to be better to be up front about what you think as a candidate, rather than telling people what they want to hear just to get power?

I wonder why we are constantly negotiating our right away- but never negotiating new rights. 0r even a return of old rights. why arent we considering re-regulation?

the sub prime mess - all are scrambling to ask where are the regulations- well they were gutted just like these new rules will be.

Bagdikian's 'Media Monopoly', documenting that most media outlets were in the hands of a small number of corporations, came out in 1983.
A half dozen revisions haven't been enough to keep up as the number of corporations controlling all media shrinks from 50 to two dozen to single digits.

Which is an echo chamber for the govt. I seen a piece last night on free speech tv. congress does have the votes not nolt fund Iraq- but wont. this tells me that they are puppets of prescott bush. nothing has changed since that era- only the faces. the moves of the dance are the same- plunder all there is to plunder.

You're speaking Greek to me. You'll need to elaborate some. I have never heard of Bagdikan's Media Monopoly. I don't know how many corporations controlled media outlets in the U.S. at any time. I just remember my own experiences of seeing small local televison and radio stations with independent programming as a kid. Local papers were owned in state. But, that't not the case anymore.
