Hmm, after reading some postings, a question came to mind:
Is a collar only for a slave?
i do look forward to hearing anyone's opinion on this !

No, a collar is a symbol, it can be for whatever you want to whoever you want.

camille65 -> RE: Is a collar just a collar just a collar...? (12/16/2007 6:32:59 PM)

That depends on who you ask. Literally. Some see a collar as a fashion accessory. Some are slaves that are collared, some are submissives that are collared. Some wear bracelets or tatoos and forego the collar completely. I wear a necklace and we call that my collar. [:D] Does that explain it all?

Nods, thank you LuckyAlbatross.

Oh yes, Camille.  :)
i asked because it seems that some might think it is only for a slave. i am glad to see that this is not the case for all

In the literal sense a collar is something we place around an animal so that we may put it on a leash and lead it about.  Many indigineous peoples that were forced into slavery were considered to be animals and were collared to make transportation and taming easier.  But all manner of farm animals and domestic pets are collared, including this "pet".

sexyone4you -> RE: Is a collar just a collar just a collar...? (12/16/2007 7:05:53 PM)

A collar is a collar is a collar if that's what it means to you.  You and your partner define what that collar (or necklace, tattoo, brand, etc) mean to you.

BlackWolfSwitch -> RE: Is a collar just a collar just a collar...? (12/16/2007 7:09:47 PM)

Collars are certainly not just for slaves. I myself am an owned switch (subbing to a Domme) and have a collar, two actually. One for all purposes, one for privacy.

Collars are not entirely just a sign of being totally owned. I like to think of mine as a mark of pride, or of being proud of the one I'm submitting to. Otherwise... collars are just items showing you're .. there. Heh.

To each their own though. I guarantee that someone within 10 minutes of this post will read what I wrote and be like "OMG! Collars are totally only for slaves! Blahblahblah etc...." and probably have a heart attack or something. *LOL*

Yes, this is how i feel about it.

TMaster2 -> RE: Is a collar just a collar just a collar...? (12/16/2007 9:06:38 PM)

My slave and I used to look and shop and look some more for the right collar for her.  We found several -- necklaces for everyday and evening wear, casual chokers for casual but more "defining" times, and of course the full leather and D-ring ones for play.  It never ended, though, they were always fun to look for, and new ideas of how they "should" look for us kept emerging.  My wife, on the other hand, is not a slave and she wears a necklace type for a "collar" when she wants to accentuate the fact she belongs to me.  So each have their own wants, own needs in collars, but both like what they like, and I like any of them on either of them.  (Well, used to - I no longer have the slave, but will find another one of these days)

Yes, there are so many to choose from !
i am sure you will find another in time.

MasterFireMaam -> RE: Is a collar just a collar just a collar...? (12/17/2007 2:59:50 AM)

Nope. I'm collared to my calling (which is surrendering to the Universe in order to evolve as a person and a Master). You can see it in this picture. http://pics.livejournal.com/masterfiremaam/pic/000723yq

This is the charm: http://www.artbeads.com/charm353.html I have many of them and each slave has one on their collar. I also give them to people who mean a great deal to me as tokens.

Greetings
without reading any other posts....A collar is for those who wish to offer, to beg, to receive, and means different things to different people. In short, it is a symbol which, while giving a general framework in which to view the two, means something unique to the two (or more) involved in the dynamic into which the collar is brought. I hope this helps.

yes, I believe I will find one very suited to me, to us.  Just a matter of time and diligence, eh?

Dnomyar -> RE: Is a collar just a collar just a collar...? (12/17/2007 7:56:05 AM)

I believe that charms or small bracelets or necklaces work better for public display. In play you can switch to a bigger leather one. If you want to wear a permanet one there are locking metal collars that look like a necklace.
