Conversely, I do worry about the hazards of towelheads with atom bombs because I can see no situation where that benefits anyone- and the current administration has proven to be disastrously incompetent.

Towelheads?  Okay.....

And how does anyone having nuclear weapons benefit anyone?  Unless you think that mutually assured destruction is a form of creative expression?

Like ma daddy always said, bigots have a way of shining through.

Yours,

benji

What other cause could there be? You can look to what is going on in Zimbabwe I suppose and blame despots for ruining infrastructure but you also have to look at the fact that some of the most impoverished nations are those with big populations such as India and China. You may think the standard of living in China or India is OK, well it’s ok for the few I suppose in the upper echelons of those societies.

There is only so much land to supply so many people and at some point demand out strips supply, that is as I see it and may not be gospel I suppose.

What other causes were you pointing to?

Sam,

I must agree with you on what you have said on the scientific front. I too, work in the area of science and medicine. Now all I really have to add is that I wish someone would come up with some genetic engineering to get rid of my affliction. After 25 years of research at a major Boston hospital, it is still only minimally understood. Talk about orphan diseases, I am the only one found to date with this and have been lucky enough for the past 25 years to have received 4 million dollars per year to study me. Since I was 19 I have been hearing, ''oh in 5 years we will be able to fix this through genetic engineering.''  Well, I hope if anyone does show up with this long after I am gone, that my research will have helped him/her.

Hell, we have put good science and money into breeding cats and dogs which can no longer breathe! The UK leading these atrocities. I don't see people all up in arms in fear and worry at what is being done with animals which is causing great harm to the breeds and to the species at large.

Regards,

EG

P.S. People. Even most Muslims would call the Iranian president a towelhead and worse. Perhaps you don't wish to know what they called Saddam. Me and mine are Muslims and live in an Islamic country (he being born there and it adopting me a whole lot better than the US) so I know from whence I speak. If you don't like what I say, move along. I don't hold my beliefs to spend all of my time arguing over them, only some of my time of which I do not have a great deal free. Everyone is so pc in public, it is what is said inside their homes which we don't know about. At least I will speak what is on my mind. Racism hasn't gone away, and I don't believe this statement was, it has only gotten more quiet in public.

Well, crazy as it was- MAD did work- never have two superpowers faced off, both having built up large standing armies- and done very little about it.  Basically the US has shown great restraint in its use of nuclear weapons (as did the former USSR to give the devil his due), although there's certainly been lots of saber rattling.  But without the development of the atom bomb, the US and the USSR would have been in a long standing ground war in Europe based on the need to contain Stalin, who was the flip side of Hitler's coin and WWII would have dragged out a lot longer.

Towelheads?  Well, I'm damned if I'm going to treat with respect a bunch of nasty brats who only want to destroy what someone else has built.  I've seen this on the playground when I was 8 and I was the kid who built the model airplane, only to watch somebody who caught it, smash it.  The towelheads actions aren't declaring war over a legitimate or at least reasonably perceived grievance- these clowns are vandals, committing acts of violence because they enjoy it.  Having met civilized individuals from Iran and Palestine, I know damn well that they're as appalled as most of the world about the attacks on 9/11.

Careful with the term racism or bigotry.  Those terms mean that you expect a certain set of actions out of an individual based on his/her genetic makeup.  I'm angry with a bunch of individuals based on their actions- I don't care about their gene pool or religion.  If I were a Muslim, I'd be furious with these clowns for giving my religion a bad name- and I suspect that a bunch are, but they may be too scared to do anything about.  Yes, I've read the Kite Runner, and I know enough about Nazi Germany to recognize how a bunch of thugs can take over a country.  Treating terrorists with dignity and respect isn't going to do anything useful.

Sam

Perhaps the fact that 5% of the earths population uses 90% of the earths product might have something to do with it.
