'An article in The Independent yesterday worth sharing, here's the crux of it:
You'll know India is a vast country with a huge gulf in wealth and education among the population; basically, the middle classes are thriving and growing, but there remains a large proportion of the population who are living in the age of magic, the age of science is proving illusive to them.
Anyway, this bloke in India........he's the high priest/chief of the clan etc, and he's reputed to hold the ability to heal the sick, and cure diseases; the local community understands that he is the Indian Jesus Christ. In the event of a mudslide and their homes being destroyed, the locals go to magic man for comfort and reason; where there's a failed crop season, they go to magic man in the belief that he will turn a fish into a village feast: with this magic comes power, he's the top man. Apparently, this power and magic stems from one of his legs, and this is understood within the community; they go to him like Catholics go to Lourdes, and the magic within his leg turns despair into hope and glory.
So, one night two other blokes within the local community get him drunk; when he passes out, they saw his leg off and run off with it.
