MOST modern number one hits could fit into one of their guitar solos.

Led Zeppelin returned to the stage last night with their first full set in 19 years — and younger members of the crowd had heard nothing like it.

Manufactured pop is ruling the charts and young music fans are an impatient sort.

Maybe that’s why the bars at the O2 Arena in Greenwich filled during some of the band’s winding rock epics.

But their classics proved music doesn’t rock like it used to. Tracks like Whole Lotta Love and Stairway to Heaven had every one of the fans — who included Liam Gallagher and Sir Paul McCartney — on their feet and shaking their fists.

Thanks for posting that, Sanity. Here's something from a recent Rolling Stone article on them:

quote:

On June 10th of this year, at 2:30 in the afternoon, the surviving members of Led Zeppelin — guitarist Jimmy Page, singer Robert Plant and bassist John Paul Jones — met in a rehearsal space to play some songs. It was the first time they had been in the same room with instruments since their rough four-song set at Led Zeppelin's 1995 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This time, the stakes were higher: to see if they had the strength, empathy and appetite to truly perform as Led Zeppelin again, in their first full concert since the death of drummer John Bonham in 1980.

The location of the rehearsal, somewhere in England, is still a zealously guarded secret. In interviews a few weeks before Led Zeppelin's December 10th show at London's 02 arena — a benefit tribute to the late Ahmet Ertegun, the co-founder of Atlantic Records — Page, Plant and Jones claim they can't remember the date, what they played or even how the idea of reuniting in honor of Ertegun, a close friend and mentor during and after the band's years on the label, came up. They all agree that playing together again, after so long, was a momentous, emotional occasion.

I've never seen them in concert... but it probably doesn't matter.

I probably wouldn't remember it anyway!

I have to say though, "Rock and roll" is one of my all-time favorites.

Mmm Hmm, That girl was Shakin'

The last show I saw was Motley Crue, it was good, and I remember it... LOL

I've been to many a concert. Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Live Rust in Munich, Styx more times than I will ever remember... Van Halen Van Halen, Jethro Tull, Bad Company, Fleetwood Mac, Metallica, Aerosmith, Moody Blues, Alan Parsens...

Quite a few others, and a lot that I won't ever recall. Concerts seemed like life's calling, back in the day. Nothing seemed more important than seeing the show!

When Rock And Roll was king! In all it's macho, politically incorrect swagger. Just shows you how wimpy Rock has become.

Never seen Led Zepplin live either. But they're still in my All-Time Top 5 list.

I've been lucky enough to see the Stones, Paul McCartney & Wings, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Foghat, Deep Purple, Greatful Dead, Moody Blues, and I'm sure a bunch more that escapes me off the top of my head here.

I had a ticket to see Elvis for what proved to be his final performance in Chicago, but I gave it away at the eleventh hour to a lady who really really wanted to go.

(edited to add) Oops, how could I forget? I went to the Pocono Rock Festival in 1972. There alone, I saw Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, Black Sabbath, Rod Stewart, Humble Pie, J. Geils Band, Three Dog Night and more. Badfinger was supposed to play, but never did...

I had the pleasure of seeing Plant and Page in South Carolina back in 1998 or 1999 (I forgot)
Damn good concert.
"Been a long time since I rock and rolled."  was the opening song.
Kick ass.  I will never forget.

Only other concert that rivaled that one was Pink Floyd in Death Valley, SC.
Def Leppard kicked ass, too at Carolina Colliseum, Columbia, SC

A concert? Big deal. I've been drinking with Robert Plant so phooey!
(well, I was in the same bar at the same time on several occasions)

As for modern music - turn off the shite they play on the radio and go looking for it, and there's plenty of good stuff out there. But nothing and no one does it like Led Zepp.

Has Robert Plant had a vocal cord transplant or something? Because 20 years ago, he couldn't sing Led Zeppelin.

I'm sure it would be quite lucrative. Best of luck to them.. Personally, I'm not a potential customer, as I don't do venues bigger than a few thousand people.

Actually I like the Zepsters. But they got so much radio play I don't want to hear their hits anymore. But then they have ALOT more than their big hits. Kickass group, yes. Have to listen to the whole albulm, REALLY YES.

However, I heard the the tickets started around $250, and a front row seat was over eighty grand. They are a damn good group, but I think I'll pass.

I wonder if I can download it yet :-)

I thought this was quite interesting:

http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2007/12/08/5714/

<< But beyond unforgettable songs and legendary live shows, Led Zeppelin broadcast a powerful message to fans who tuned in to the right frequency. Bring the soul of the West and Islam together, Led Zeppelin told us, and you can produce a musical force powerful enough to break through the barricade dividing the two civilizations. >>

<< In Led Zeppelin’s music, there were hints of the Arabic ruba’, or quarter tone, and Persian koron, or neutral third. >>

Like I said, it's on Dime as lossless flacs, so I expect somewhere with a lot of .torrent files would have a mp3 version available....
