Don't Tell Me," which aired over the weekend, Perino got into the spirit of things and told a story about herself that she had previously shared only in private: During a White House briefing, a reporter referred to the Cuban Missile Crisis -- and she didn't know what it was.

"I was panicked a bit because I really don't know about . . . the Cuban Missile Crisis," said Perino, who at 35 was born about a decade after the 1962 U.S.-Soviet nuclear showdown. "It had to do with Cuba and missiles, I'm pretty sure."

So she consulted her best source. "I came home and I asked my husband," she recalled. "I said, 'Wasn't that like the Bay of Pigs thing?' And he said, 'Oh, Dana.' "

Am I mistaken in thinking this makes her ignorant not dumb?

How about paid tuition for an extensive U.S or World History course? Which version of the story do you think she would be taught?

You're not mistaken.  I have a degree in history, and there are many areas of history that I know very little about.  There is nothing wrong with being ignorant on a subject.  In fact what makes a person dumb is a inability or unwillingness to learn.  I would rather a person admit they don't know anything about something, then pretend they know everything.  It's like that old saying goes, it's better to be silent and appear dumb, than open your mouth and remove all doubt.  However, a White House press secretary should have a fairly good knowledge of recent American history.  That's not really her fault, that's the fault of the person that hired her.

Do you think she attended Public Schools?

Keep this in mind when she says things like, We'll have to wait for History's Judgment... Apparently, for her, there is no judgment, because she's woefully ignorant.

How would someone so ignorant get a job which REQUIRES a comprehensive mastery of the subject, in order to properly answer questions regarding policy?

Oh, I *know* it's just another unqualified Loyal Bushie, who only has the job because of her connections, not her capability.

My inevitable (and admittedly not most suitably placed) stab at our education system aside.

I am in agreement that someone who used to staff this position used to be someone with a solid background (if not necessarily mastery) of dealing with the media, public policy, history of at least the 50 years (global history, not just US) and probably also some public speaking skills.

But, seriously, being on the last roughly 12 months of this administration and seeing its popularity (or rather lack thereof) and the way it has been burning out people and readily throwing them under any bus coming at Bush 43...do you really believe that by now they would not be scraping the bottom of the barrel to staff this post?

The dumb part, as slaveboyforyou mentioned, is that she was hired for the job in the first place. Perhaps she does not need to be a “Loyal Bushie”, but only needed to fit the agenda of whoever did the hiring.
