A photograph is our representation to others, I would not put up a photograph until I had one I was happy with.Darkinshadows came to my rescue on that with my initial photo and later Darcyandthedark took the highly professional photos I now have on my profile.( If anyone is in their area and wants good pics, contact them, I am sure they will be interested).

Some of the pics I have seen on this site leave a lot to be desired, but I understand, it is perhaps the best some people can get, not everyone is a photographer, or knows one.

<===== That one was taken in a ruined churchyard in Hertfordshire, by .dark.

Thanks for all the replies. I honestly had not thought of the travel theory, yes that usually means lots of pictures being taken and people are generally more happy and relaxed when travelling, that explains a lot. I am with you on the pics that people choose to display too though. I have seen many that have up the most unflattering pic of themself then four or five others with it that are wonderful pics. And yet they choose the bad one as the main pic.
The pic i have up now i played with in photoshop a lil. I happen to think i look awful in pics and hate having mine taken.

That hadn't occurred to me, and the news comes as something of a relief. I was thinking folks had made some tragic decorating choices.

Raechard -> RE: pics observation (12/9/2007 2:53:48 PM)

There are more important things to worry about than images. It's a shame when the personality comes second to the image. So I don't care if the image is taken in a barn. It's of zero relevance really.

It always funny I've had profiles with both images and no images you are always trying to find the balance between attracting people and then the same people recognising you are more than that image you used to attract them in the first place.

The perfect test is when you have a profile with no photo, write an equal amount on the message boards as you did with the profile that had a photo but no one bothers to talk back because you have no picture. I shouldn’t carry out these tests but I can’t help but wonder what people like me for, so I do.

It's brave to put a picture up, I wouldn't belittle people for it. It's just not on.

I'm still pondering "cropped" photos. I haven't seen the marks on anyone; are they using phantom crops??? [sm=crop.gif]

Couldn't think of anything worthwhile, so decided to be a smart ass!

I am one of the guilty ones with a motel pic LOL which happened to be taken while away on a 3 day business trip.   Somehow would rather see that than a cropped wedding picture like you see on some other sites [:D]

I found those types of pics a turn off when I was looking...

topcat -> RE: pics observation (12/9/2007 5:53:18 PM)

I have noticed the motel, and the bathroom ones- and the wow-I-just-got-photochop ones-

the ones that really bug me aren't even the really bad ones, but the ones that clearly show that the person lives in a sty, can't be bothered to clean up, or change out of the ratty sweatshirt.

If you are serious about your search, you might consider what such images say about you- that you are unkempt? poorly organised?

the ones that really get me are the ones (usually, it seems, of dommes) dressed to the nines in fetishware, hair an make up just so- and a pile of dirty laundry, an open disarrayed closet, and what looks like a mop in the backround.

I had to laugh at your response because my photos were taken in an actual bedroom that had tragic decorating choices! It looks like a three star hotel lol, the only 'real' looking one is of my dog and she is laying on my bed *which was quite messy so now I worry that I will come across as a slobby sub ack!*[:D] My pics need updating but until I find a photographer they will be staying. They are well  over a year old [&:].

IrishMist -> RE: pics observation (12/10/2007 8:21:41 AM)

I don't keep pictures of myself on my profile; but, the pictures that I DO keep on my computer for those who ask me for them were taken at a hotel in SF...was there for the festivities [8D] Some are in the room, some are in hall ways...some are...in a different way lol.

Kumasan2 -> RE: pics observation (12/10/2007 10:39:49 AM)

My current photos were taken while on vacation in the Bahamas (something I highly recommend).  The dog was wandering on the beach and I named him Charlie.

I thought they looked relaxed and laid back and were a good example of the Kumasan in his natural environment.  Or at least the environment he wishes he was in more frequently.

The thing is you could do a feng shui sort of basket that they could buy (using your extensive knowledge of pottery barn) and they could strew the goods about the motel room as they take pictures.......you have a business and have raised fuck pics to an entirely new level of art.
