Sanity -> NBC Rejects Ad From Conservative Group (12/7/2007 7:51:36 PM)

But yet, I saw a movon.org ad on FOX News the other day...

quote:

WASHINGTON (AP) - NBC has rejected a TV ad by Freedom's Watch, a conservative group that supports administration policy in Iraq, that asks viewers to remember and thank U.S. troops during the holiday season.

NBC said it declined to air the ad because it refers to the group's Web site, which the network said was too political, not because of the ad's message.

"Anybody in the world who would look at this ad would come away with nothing other than we should be thankful for their service," Freedom's Watch president Brad Blakeman said.

The quote from the NBC rep is very telling, given the groups refusal to modify their ad to conform to network standards and practices.

"Candidly, some folks have found that you get more attention when an ad is not accepted," he said.

Which, is certainly true in this instance. Who else would ever hear pay attention to the failed strategy of "Stay The Course...." ( Which, admittedly, might work, IF there were a course to be plotted.... But the unsophisticated to proponents Bush's Strategy missed even the 1200 year old Sunni/Shia conflict as something requiring attention and management.... )

You're right, NBC is giving them even more publicity by trying to shut them out. They're morons. FOX just takes Movon.org's dollars and allows the free exchange of ideas

The way things should be

You try playing games like NBC does and it backfires on you, whoever they try to censor just makes more of a splash than they would have had they just taken their cash

I'm sure General Electric's broadcasting division isn't "playing games". If anything, as we've said, their refusal is working to get the Losers' message of "Stay The Course" out there... And it's not like GE really gives a shit about a few grand here and there...

NBC Decides to Run Conservative-Group Ad

By JIM KUHNHENN

WASHINGTON -- NBC reversed course Saturday and decided to air a conservative group's television ad thanking U.S. troops.

The ad, by the group Freedom's Watch, asks viewers to remember the troops during the holiday season. NBC had refused to air the ad because it guides viewers to the Freedom's Watch Web site, which NBC said was too political.

But in a statement issued Saturday evening, NBC said:
"We have reviewed and changed our ad standards guidelines and made the decision that our policy will apply to content only and not to a referenced Web site. Based on these amended standards the Freedom's Watch ad will begin to run as early as Sunday."

They've never aired advocacy ads like that during the Superbowl. Your link even says so!

farglebargle -> RE: NBC Rejects Ad From Conservative Group (12/9/2007 7:25:51 AM)

The last Superbowl NBC carried was back in 98, wasn't it?

Sanity -> RE: NBC Rejects Ad From Conservative Group (12/9/2007 7:27:43 AM)

His link was referring to CBS

So, is the ad in question available on You Tube yet?

I don't want to spout off on something I haven't even seen... (although it seems like many others don't mind doing so...)
