When it comes down to it, I think it's the nerdy lifestyle that really got me envolved with BDSM in the first place. Comics, sci fi, Henti Anime, and such really caught my interest with bondage, torture, and domination. It got me thinking "I'd like to do some of those things."

The leading villians in the Anime Series "Twin Angles" gave me a few ideas for rape scenes. His dominance over the young women forced them to submit. After they submitted, they wished to be servent to him forever.

It seems those of us in this lifestyle have a diverse interests in other areas.  Thank you LA for the link to the Renaissance Faires

MadameMarque -> RE: Anime fans and otherwise nerdy lifestylers ~ ! (12/9/2007 11:41:55 AM)

Oh, yes.  There is no doubt.  Anime, manga, RPG's, sci-fi, Society for Creative Anachronism (used to see more SCA people in the scene, than presently), - anything with cosplay, "techie" - ism (uh, not a real term), and/or involving stories of alienated characters.  There's a huge crossover.

In fact, when events of a BDSM nature, here in town, were poorly attended one weekend, and someone person wondered, aloud, why, the reply came in unison, "Norwescon."

Damn, thanks for the info!  Got my hotel reservations (near the convention) made!  That's a great list of authors - two of my faves will be there.

invictus1988 -> RE: Anime fans and otherwise nerdy lifestylers ~ ! (8/14/2008 12:55:58 AM)

well i enjoy anime (not as much as most), the only time i've really watched anime was with some of my friends who are really into it. i've gone to several anime cons in SoCal and it was fun. But I'm more of a video game nerd (i'm getting my degree in Game art and Design lol) ^_^

You know, I've been sitting at work all morning thinking about it, and I was wondering what percentage of the D/s, BDSM, bondage and general alternative lifestyle community identify with "nerdy" interests -- technology, fantasy, sci-fi, anime, comics, video games, etc etc etc.

I've personally found the number of people in the lifestyle who do enjoy it to be relatively high compared to other "sub-cultures."

What do the rest of you all think?

Don't know about others or numbers... but you got me...[sm=giveup.gif] I do fantasy, sci-fi, anime, comics, video games, WoW... and I contribute to the general delinquency of the next generation by WRITING the damned stuff! *LOL*

Holy shit....she damn sure does! I've been into anime for quite some time, and it pains me to see corporate America's attempt to emulate anime into most american cartoons & comics now. *shudders as he thinks about the god-awful modern Transformers cartoon*

But, thinking a bit more on it as someone said....those of us into anime, ren-fairs, sci-fi, etc. are very imagination driven and we tend to have completely different viewpoints from mainstream society. Kinda interesting though how those differences manifest in our choice of lifestyle as well as entertainment.

bipolarber -> RE: Anime fans and otherwise nerdy lifestylers ~ ! (8/14/2008 3:06:20 PM)

I'd go to such events as the cons you're discussing... but I'm waiting for the tipping point to be reached... I want a BDSM fetish event that has some Sci fi/fantasy con elements to it, not the other way 'round. :)

Usako -> RE: Anime fans and otherwise nerdy lifestylers ~ ! (8/14/2008 3:46:55 PM)

Yeah, my name says it all. I like anime and video games quite a lot.

Though find it hard to find anyone on this site (especially locally and sane) who feel the same way. Most of the messages in my inbox are from wankers. ._.

My very sweet, very nerdy, very geektastic ex-husband loves all this stuff. He's also extremely vanilla. I don't think one has anything to do with the other.

coupleowl -> RE: Anime fans and otherwise nerdy lifestylers ~ ! (8/14/2008 5:23:34 PM)

MrOwl Own's 30 some-odd rolepaying books, has more anime than a virgin 15 year old boy, and- Has spider girl issue 1.

Fnordstrum -> RE: Anime fans and otherwise nerdy lifestylers ~ ! (8/14/2008 9:39:10 PM)

Heh, I love anime, gaming, computers, related things (Technology in general, fantasy/sci-fi anything, comics I just never got into but I have nothing against them, and of course read some Manga)...

Speaking of liking anime, I was at Otakon last week, so, woo for that... heh. (For my fourth time, and of course we already have a hotel reservation for next year)

As far as a percentage of people that share interests in those types of things and BDSM types of things... I couldn't really say, I do know a lot of the people that I've talked to who have an interest in BDSM at all tend to also like anime, but I could just also happen to mostly talk to people that happen to like anime...

Fnord.
