ORIGINAL: juliaoceania I do not think it is "ethical" (forgive the pun) to do what this person may doing. In academia you give credit to the people who have the ideas that you have borrowed. I perfectly agree that in academic circles or most instances of print media, it is not only a matter of good style, ethics and credibility to cite your sources, but also a quite necessary legal defense. But this ain't Harvard and as they say, plagiarism is the most sincere form of reverence. quote:
ORIGINAL: Darcyandthedark But seriously - is it possible to live by the book? Yes - but then I would call that someone taking anothers words, turning it into gospel and making it their religion. This is just as it applies to the comments about Goreans. To many of them, Norman's books are gospel truth and they quote it at book, page and verse just as profusely as my grandmother would spew bible verses. Personally, I cannot comprehend how someone can live by the letter of anything printed either (heck, I don't even follow cooking recipes, but only use them for creative inspiration). But for some people it works very well. May all those with counseling/psych backgrounds step forward now - but from observation in life, I often feel that people who do live by the letter have a tremendous need for security and safety. Living by the letter of anything gives them an academic, religious, idelological, etc. foundation on which they can build their belief set and, consequently, their lives. I am far from calling them intellectual simpletons, as many of these folks are well educated and very intelligent, but it just seems to provide them with a saftey net with which they feel more comfortable navigating life. Edited for shits and giggles and typos.
