But wait, there is more. John Bolton told Wolf Blitzer that the NIE was the handiwork of exiled State Department officials hell bent on undermining Bush and this country.

These neo-cons suck ass.

bipolarber -> RE: NeoCons Go Ballistic on Iran NIE (12/6/2007 10:13:11 PM)

They sure do! And now we find that Bush KNEW the Iranian bomb program had been shut down since at least August! Yet he was still beating the drum to go to war with them, selling us on this whole "World War III" schpiel. Seems Dickless Cheany didn't bother to tell his boss about the new information, because it interferred with his plans to send more money to Haliburton....

After all... who cares about the lives of a few thousand kids who came from trailer parks? They're expendable! It's not like they're the children of the rich and powerful. They knew the job was dangerous when they signed up! Right? They understood that once they were "owned" by the US military, the powers that be could send them off on a lie, and to make a quick buck for them. Body armor? Armor for their Hummers? Forget that! That stuff cuts into the profit margin of the war. And in return, the same administration that sent them there cut their benefits, and cut the medical care for the wounded. And the dead? Well, they'll just sneak the coffins in under the cover of darkness... no sense upsetting the folks watching on TV, ya know...?

That's the neo-con way of "supporting the troops."

So Iran stopped their nuke program in 2003....

....hmm... what else happened in 2003? Iraq invasion? Yeah. Iran got a little scared there..

Muttling -> RE: NeoCons Go Ballistic on Iran NIE (12/7/2007 1:02:44 AM)

Please HEAR ME friends.........

I'm pretty upset with the current crap, just as you are.    HOWEVER, don't jump to the other side of the scale to offset this crap.   Find the reasonable middle ground.   Don't believe the bull crap coming out of the Oval office but don't go ape crap to offset their crap.

Making the pendulim swing is a prelude to fucking things up.   Research the data and research it carefully, then come to realistic conclusions.   The Iranians, North Koreans, etc. want to see the pendulim swing because it empowers them.

Do NOT react to your enemy.  Make your enemy react to YOU.     I don't really care who you define as the enemy, but this rule holds true.

So, according to you, Iran was secretly building nuclear bombs. But they stopped when George Bush invaded Iraq.

Also, Syria handed over their WMD programs.

And Saddam Hussein will never reconstitute his weapons programs either.

North Korea is at the bargaining table...

DAMN those Neocons

Sanity -> RE: NeoCons Go Ballistic on Iran NIE (12/7/2007 6:11:22 AM)

Libya, rather than Syria.

I misspoke.

The UN and world community(including the US,until bush) had been negotiating with Iran,to open up their country to inspections for almost ten years, before 2003.This effort(lead by Briton and France),is what made the process happen. Not bush invading fucking Iraq, for god`s sake.

Neo-cons are such dopes, and dupes for believing it was invading Iraq, that stopped the program.

Hey dopey neo-cons,lol,it was the UN that brought Iran around, not you chicken-hawks.What do ya think of that?lol

You can expect the neo-cons to steal the credit, but don`t expect them to give the UN any.

The point of the OP,was that neo-con shit talkers, are slamming the Intel community, for not agreeing with their twisted world view.If the facts don`t fit the position, shoot the fact finder, question their integrity and then ignore them.

Isn`t this exactly what what happened,in the build up to the Iraq invasion?

kittinSol -> RE: NeoCons Go Ballistic on Iran NIE (12/7/2007 7:06:33 AM)

Iran is rich in oil; it's a third world country; and it's vulnerable to attack.

USA go, we've seen it all before.

If the Brits and the French knew Iran shut down their nuclear program in 2003, why didn't they say something this past year or two? Instead they were lock-step with the USA to put more sanctions on Iran and turn up the pressure. The current French president even warned Ahmadinejad of being attacked if they didnt stop their nuclear programs. And Ahmadinejad never said he stopped in 2003. In fact, he has said Iran "is developing nuclear technology for civilian purposes." You almost have to wonder if this is just infighting in the US government. The CIA was actually against the Iraq war believe it or not. The Pentagon was not. The CIA may be against any type of Iranian war, so they released this NIE to cool heads. The Israelis havnt changed their stance, they still think Iran is going to develop a nuke within 2 years.

Remember it was also British intelligence that was originally behind the Niger nuclear claim. And it was also the Russians that told the US that Saddam was planning to sell WMDs to terrorists.

In November 2002, the UN Security Council voted 15-0 (Res 1441) to give Iraq a "final warning" that they must disband their WMDs. Even Syria went along with this resolution. So EVERYBODY got Iraq wrong. There was not an intelligence agency in this world that had the correct information.

Why am I supposed to believe anything that comes out of any government right now? Im taking EVERYTHING with a grain of salt. Even this NIE.

Why would Iran be scared of someone ELSE invading and occupying Iraq?

The US was ALREADY based in the Middle-East in Saudi Arabia, and the Iranians had BEEN AT WAR for the something like FOREVER, but seriously for the past 20 years.

Why are you characterizing legitimate academic development programs, which never came even CLOSE to building any weapons, as "secretly building nuclear bombs"?

Is that a display of ignorance, or intentional fear-mongering?

popeye1250 -> RE: NeoCons Go Ballistic on Iran NIE (12/7/2007 8:35:03 AM)

Eisenhower was right, beware the military-industrial complex.
They kept going to the well of U.S. Taxpayer dollars and now that well is dry.

farglebargle -> RE: NeoCons Go Ballistic on Iran NIE (12/7/2007 8:38:49 AM)

Every dollar wasted paying the Loyal Bushies over at Blackwater is a dollar the troops don't get.

Why does the Bush Administration hate the troops?

PaHunk, I don't even care about "peace" anymore, I'd  be happy if my govt. just minded it's own business and didn't get involved in foreign countries anymore.

its their way of saving the dollar and making a hit load at the same time.

Sadly, the real story is FAR more disheartening than that.

Blackwater fills a gap that the military is totally incapable of filling at the moment.   As do all the major security, explosive ordnance disposal, and construction companies.   People like Bechtel, Haliburton, Triple Canopy, Zapata, ATI, EODT, etc.

Blackwater is most frequently in the headlines because they are the most frequent winners of the most high profile contracts.   Specifically, personal security details for high value targets such as State Department liasons and high ranking Iraqi politicians.

Back to the disheartening part, the U.S. military is incapable of performing these missions without these contractors.   There aren't enough military bomb disposal teams to deal with the IEDs, demo all of Saddam's conventional munitions, and teach the Iraqi's how to manage their own Ammunition Supply Points (ASPs).   The active duty is overwhelmed with the IED mission alone and the contractors have been hired to do the rest.

The same is true with construction, security details, perimeter security, convoy escort, access control points, etc.

Our military was trimmed down to be lean and mean under both Republican AND Democratic leadership.   It was supposed become leaner/ meaner.  They got the leaner part right.

I am reminded, reading this, of the early writings of Arthur London: "'2 + 2 = 98' say the fascists. '2 + 2 = 4' say the antifascists. '2 + 2 = 50' say the forces of the 'reasonable middle.'"

There's a tendency, whenever the rightwing gets caught in some whopper, for folks claiming to be of "the reasonable middle" to jump in any muddy the waters.

Muttling would have us invade Iraq because Hussein had "a few" WMDs and because Iraq was involved "a little" in 9/11. He'd support the Patriot Act "with reservations" because the "war on terrorism" had "some" problems but terrorism was "a little bad" and we should give up "a few" freedoms for "a little bit" of safety.
