How many of you are starting to experience a low during the Holiday period.  I started off pretty well, but the last couple of days, I have noticed a change in mood.  I work retail, and it is kind of fun actually, but it gets really busy.
Do the rest of you experience this low feeling during the holidays?

I'm too busy grumping over the repeated delays to my girl's impending arrival to hate the holidays.  However, they normally put me in a mood, yes.

Ho ho ho, muthafucka.

MissSCD, you may need to get one of those plant lights.  You may not be feeling low due to the holidays, but rather due to the lack of sunlight.  Another suggestion is to try having a small to medium baked potato at around 3 - 4pm (I am figuring an 8am -5pm job -- adjust for your own scheduale).  Make sure your breakfast includes protein and complex carbs, as the protwin will give you energy the longest, the complex carbs the next longest.  If you can, try to up your heart rate a bit on your breaks by walking around the building.  Also you can do some exercises even while standing at the register.  Going up on your toes, and such.  Give yourself a half hour to relax at home before you start dinner or any other things.

Just my ten cents.

I have more often than not been away from my family at Christmas, and work in a 24/7 environment, so I'll offer to work for those who have family.  Christmas is just another day for me, it's actually easier living in a warmer climate, it's tough to get into the holday mood with out all the trappings, cold, snow, that sort of thing.

Believe it or not, the "holiday" that is the worst for me is Mother's and Father's day....that's when I get bummed.

We were just discussing this on the gorean thread....the high frequency of people who just dont have a happy holiday. Its depressing to me..and to alot of people. Especially those of us who have lost loved ones near the holidays. The holidays are supposed to be a time to celebrate, but I feel like all Im doing is pretending to smile so my kids dont know how miserable I really am.

My dad is a United Methodist Minister, and he stopped having a Christmas eve service at his church because no one was coming anymore. A few years ago he started holding a "blue christmas" service instead...which is a church service dedicated to people who are depressed by the holidays. The church has been packed every year he's held it. Its amazing to me how many people hate the holidays....

Yep, your post hits close to home here, lol. I lost my baby brother (okay, he was 19, but he was still my baby) in November '06. It's been a bittersweet holiday season. The absolute worst is seeing my parents hurt so badly. I feel the best thing I can do for them is to let them have their grief without pushing any Christmas cheer down their throats.

I lost a close friend earlier tihs week, my daughter would have been 3 this Christmas, throw in I have lost family members over the years this time of the year, yep, I get depressed.  I try to focus on the positive and those who I have around me and to what may be on the horizon.  I am also getting my a** in gear for the photoshoot next month.  Plus.. lots of peppermint candy, yummy smells and people are a bit nicer this time of the year.

I get the blues this time of year. I lost my brother 4 1/2 years ago and my father 20 years ago and my father's bday is Dec 4th. They are both on my mind a lot during this time of the year; and it's harder this year as it may be the last Christmas my UMs have with their dad. He (my ex) was given 6-12 months tops about 3 months ago. I'm doing my best to give them as much time as possible with him to make as many memories as possible for the years ahead.

I still enjoy Christmas, but it's always tinged with some sadness.

from Thanksgiving to New Year's is my low period though i keep myself swamp with holiday/benefit shows and touring bands to review. i dread the holidays as much as i do spending them with my family/relatives. once the holiday season is done, i'm back to my chipper self.

Most people find the holidays depressing. Lack of light, colder weather, expectations, debt, weight gain, stress of shopping in crowded stores with other overstressed people.

Simplify, simplify, simplify. Buy cookies if you can't face making 8 different kinds. Or participate in a cookie exchange, you make a double batch of oatmeal raisin, someone makes peanut butter blossoms, another choc chip etc. Then you get together and swap so everyone gets one dozen of each. Used to do this and it was fun. A low key social event that made the holidays much easier.

Buy books as gifts. Books about football for your sports obsessed brother, cooking for the new college grad, style tips for the girl with unfortunate makeup skills. All these different gifts come from one store and it's a much lower key atmosphere than the mall.

Use local, little quirky stores, they will wrap and ship for you.

There are even people who will decorate your home for you. They'll get all purple ornaments to go with your new sofa, and they take it all down afterwards.

Simplify and outsource. You don't have to keep up with anyone.

I make all of my great grandmothers candy recipes for christmas gifts. At least for all the adults on my list. It works great, I love the cooking, I avoid the stores, everyone seems to appreciate the homemade candy much more than they would any useless trinket I could find in a store....

Give those unwanted clothes to someone needy this holiday season.  We know Americans don't look out for one another nearly enough.  If they did we wouldn't have so many homeless.
Volunteer.
I go through phases around the holidays.  As far as genetic family goes they are all dead for the most part.
Yet I still have adopted family.  I'm way behind on all of the things I am doing for them this season.  Just have my hands in too many projects like always.

Yes, I do naturally have a down time during the holidays, but this year totally sucked!....I mean the whole last half of the year for me.

I would be happy to know there will be no more Trama next year for me, thats my number one wish.
No more loss.....and something to look forward to.

Missy.
