BossyShoeBitch -> Pearls of Wisdom (12/3/2007 3:37:13 PM)

Sometimes I wonder if there was any way to publish some of these threads in a bound ([:D]) hardcover book.  It never ceases to amaze me the depth of knowledge, insight and at times, stupidity that abounds in this fabulous little place of ours..  Lately, it's the signature lines or little snippets of knowledge within a post that have been capturing my attention..
So, I'd like to know.. Are there any pearls of wisdom from certain Collarchat.com posters that really resonate with you?  I'll start with one that hit me like a ton of bricks today:  (please remember to credit the author [;)])

"I don't buy into people who ask me to accept them as they *will* be (or promise to be), rather than as they *are*.  I'm a firm believer that what you see is what you get.

If what you see isn't what you expected, either adjust your expectations or change your surroundings.  It's been my experience that *making* someone into what we wish them to be (or what they wish that they were) isn't very successful  "

kyraofMists -> RE: Pearls of Wisdom (12/3/2007 4:02:47 PM)

This one from BitaTruble in the second page of this thread:

quote:

I think it's important to understand about choices and options. I know I've heard a hundred times if I've heard it once, ... you always have the choice to leave.

When I examine that in depth, I find that it's not the choice that's even the issue, it's the consequence of the choice that matters. To leave means I am stripped of my own truth, my core, the essence of who I am. To leave is a lie and a betrayal of trust to my word, my being and my soul. To be other than myself is to wear a mask and fake my life. Depending on your perspective life is either too damn long or too damn short to fake it. Can I physically walk out the door, get in a cab and go somewhere else? No, I cannot. The shell of my body can, certainly, but that shell leaves behind everything that's important, everything that really matters, that does make me unique and the body walking out that door is someone else entirely. It's not me. Not now, not today, not in this moment.

That helped me get over a hurdle and I have not forgotten those words.

(chuckles) I'm in awe. :)

Um, does it HAVE to be a poster?

My favorite is:
quote:

There are two kinds of people in the universe. Stupid and intelligent. Intelligent people change thier view to fit the facts. Stupid people change the facts to fit thier views.
-The Doctor

That matches my siggy line from Alan Greenspan pretty well.[:)]

BRNaughtyAngel -> RE: Pearls of Wisdom (12/3/2007 6:02:20 PM)

This is something written by Celeste (BitaTruble) that I have saved on my computer, and refer back to a good bit:

quote:

Serve as he requires, not as you believe you 'should', take your cues from him, keep the lines of communication open, don't whine or rant, be invisible in your service, anticipate his needs, learn of him - who he is, what he wants, how he expects things to be - make sure that you can be what he requires because it's 'within' you to be that and not because you have to force yourself to be that, begin to set aside your own expectations as you allow him to color your world with his own palette, keep him entertained and amused but don't forget to laugh yourself, have fun with your slavery, revel in it, enjoy it.
There's something to be said for having joy in your heart and absolutely loving what you are, embracing it and being the best you can be because of it.

BossyShoeBitch -> RE: Pearls of Wisdom (12/3/2007 6:34:44 PM)

These are wonderful so far. Thank you all..

SimplyMichael -> RE: Pearls of Wisdom (12/3/2007 9:00:27 PM)

There is so much wisdom on collarme.  I think it's a really, really special place.  But I think I have to elect LA as my favorite poster.  The things she writes cut through the fog and condense things with a clarity I envy.  My favorite of hers is her sig line:

Find stable partners, not a stable of partners.

While she means it to apply to polyamory, I think it's useful advice in general.

BitaTruble -> RE: Pearls of Wisdom (12/3/2007 9:12:01 PM)

From: PryderiLoup

"Part of the confusion, I think comes from the fact that for many of us, (not all) are more committed to this type of relationship because it fulfills us, and satisfies us like no vanilla relationship would. Because we value it more, we work harder at it. Then we say “Wow, these D/s relationships are…” Harder, deeper, etc. The reality is that we choose to work harder, communicate better, develop more trust."

I loved it when it was written, I love it still.

Kumasan2 -> RE: Pearls of Wisdom (12/3/2007 9:17:24 PM)

I can't remember where I read it, maybe here or on another site but it's always stuck with me:

"Don't spend 20 minutes deciding on whether or not you want to spend the next 50 years with the person you're talking to.  Take your time and choose wisely, even if it takes 50 years to know it.  The wait and patience always make it worthwhile."

Words to live by in our instant gratificationly oriented world.

sexyred1 -> RE: Pearls of Wisdom (12/3/2007 9:20:14 PM)

I keep thinking about this one line, forgot who said it, sorry, but I keep using it here and everywhere...

"never make someone a priority who sees you as an option."

This truly sums up so many fucked up relationships, doesn't it?

SimplyMichael -> RE: Pearls of Wisdom (12/4/2007 12:31:32 AM)

sexyred1,

That is another one I think is great.

ExSteelAgain -> RE: Pearls of Wisdom (12/4/2007 2:26:58 AM)

I can't remember a specific phrase from anyone, but I consider the philosophies many of the posters bring as I've learned the people behind the posts. You could almost break us down into groups on here and have a pretty good idea how members will respond to a situation. Those I value tend to throw out the fluffy side of BDSM and zero in on the fact most things are the same as in the vanilla world. It doesn't mean they are not as passionate about M/s, D/s or what have you, but they keep things in perspective. I learn from them as they reaffirm by views.

VERY VERY VERY WELL PUT!!!

another favorite of mine from Aquaticsub:

"Without my dominance you cannot submit. Without your submission I cannot dominate. You are my equal in this, though our roles are different." - My Beloved (AKA Valyraen)

Does anyone else think that these could make a great coffee table book?

RCdc -> RE: Pearls of Wisdom (12/4/2007 5:34:50 AM)

It would make a good coffee table book - but the legal issues put the brakes on it even before one thinks of it.

I dig juliaOs sig - 'Once you label me, you negate me - Soren Kierkgaard.
Mind, most of Kierkgaard quotes rock - loving the irony in them.

Mercnbeth -> RE: Pearls of Wisdom (12/4/2007 6:45:47 AM)

BSB,
here's a few favorites!!!

Original: Merc (of Mercnbeth)
quote:

"The views and opinions expressed are dogma for 'Merc & beth' and not to be construed as 'lifestyle' dogma in any form or fashion. Any feeling of personal attack, validation, hope, hopelessness, or invalidation, perceived by the blunt, sarcastic, pragmatic, stupid, smart, insightful, bizarre, brutal, honest, irrelevant response comes from your perspective not ours. If you don't believe that this is how we live and act let us know when you are in the neighborhood, and we'll be happy to meet you in person and, if we enjoy your company, you'll be welcomed into the hospitality of our home.  That goes for Jay Wiseman too..."

Original: TallDarkandWitty
quote:

My idea of slavery is not a one way street.  Masters (at least in my view of M/s) have an obligation (Noblesse Oblige, anyone?) to their slaves that goes beyond "do what I want or hit the pavement."  It means doing things I would not normally do to enhance the bond between my slave and myself.

Original: SimplyMichael
quote:

A real master who truly owns a woman as property should be able to sell off one of her kidneys without asking, anyone else is just a pussy.

Original: LordandMaster
quote:

I guess it's beyond hope that, one of these days, someone who wants to debunk the whole "no limits" idea with an absurd example might just come up with something OTHER than chainsaws...

*blush* Damnit, why does it only take someone quoting me to make me giggle like a preteen schoolgirl?
