Oh, I imagine Chavez still has some chads to count.

TheHeretic -> RE: Chavez loses vote in Venezuela! (12/2/2007 9:47:55 PM)

And the absentee ballots of course.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Chavez loses vote in Venezuela! (12/3/2007 12:28:47 AM)

Actually no, he already conceded that he lost.

I sure hope this means we can welcome Venezuela back into the fold of civilized nations, because Venezuelan women are gorgeous!

Yep. Unfortunately democracy has not taken much hold in the Russian Federation like it has in Ukraine or Georgia.

Hopefully he will abide by the vote. Would it honestly surprise you if he didn't, somehow, though?

LadyEllen -> RE: Chavez loses vote in Venezuela! (12/3/2007 3:21:14 AM)

Hi Level

since our lot do as they please regardless of what they promised and regardless of popular opinion, it wouldnt surprise me if any politician anywhere in the world did the same. If breaking promises and going against the view of the people makes one a monstrous tyrant, then I guess we might want to fix the panes in our own glass houses before throwing stones at someone else's?

Hi E.... I agree with much of what you said, but I do believe in multi-tasking [:D]; working on ourselves, and tossing those rocks elsewhere, as needed.

He can always appeal to the US supreme court. They have no problem overturning a vote count, and intstalling someone instead....

Or ,like our guy,he could just write executive orders and skirt the process all together....

Cool.  Who would have expected Chavez to have more class than Al Gore?

And more class than bush had to avoid rigging the vote.

Once again the chicken little brigade was wrong per usual.

As I look into my crystal ball with my all seeing eye…what’s this thru the fog?….why I think I see Chavez accusing interference and voter fraud in the election by the Evil United States.
He throws out the election results and demands a new election. After months of anti-US rhetoric…. chest thumping…. threats to withhold oil, which raises oil prices in the US, and gives him more profit per gallon…he calls for another election with plenty of money to buy votes.

Stephann -> RE: Chavez loses vote in Venezuela! (12/3/2007 8:33:44 AM)

Chavez knows better than to rig a 'sure thing.'  This was a stunning, and utterly unexpected defeat.

Three years from now, he won't be so foolish.  I'll take anyone's bet that come 2012, he'll have pushed through some other type of 'reform.'  This is why he made the referendum today; to ensure he has the time and opportunity to ram it through, when gentle pushing doesn't work.

His next move will be to institute a Judas; a parliamentary leader who was his 'friend' to only 'turn' on him, and cut off the funding going from Chavez's hands to the masses.  After six months without government handouts, his Judas buddy will be found funneling money to US interests (or even revealed as a CIA agent) and his referendum will pass with 85%+.

I never bought into the anti-Chavez propaganda like that.

I think *real* deal killer here, was the whole Central Bank change, and there's NO WAY that that would have ever happened.

EVERYONE listens to their banker. EVERYONE.

I would again caution against citing UN-AUDITABLE RESULTS as "proof" of anything except ignorance of basic accounting principles.

MissSCD -> RE: Chavez loses vote in Venezuela! (12/3/2007 9:38:17 AM)

Did I read that correctly?  Is he in power until 2012? He is behind a lot of these high gasoline prices.
Dang.
