KenDckey -> Congressional Lack of Action could increase taxes (12/2/2007 7:17:38 PM)

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071202/ap_on_go_ot/tax_hit

A tax increas of $2,000 next year (for 28 million taxpayers) and delayed tax refunds may be instore for us our 2007 taxes because of tax change legislation that is just sitting around congress waiting on action.

Whatcha think?

popeye1250 -> RE: Congressional Lack of Action could increase taxes (12/2/2007 7:41:28 PM)

I think that the congress needs to stop spending our money.

subfever -> RE: Congressional Lack of Action could increase taxes (12/2/2007 11:13:19 PM)

I think Federal income taxes for individuals earning within the US should be eliminated, along with the IRS, the Federal Reserve, and the fractional banking system.

Muttling -> RE: Congressional Lack of Action could increase taxes (12/2/2007 11:18:40 PM)

I really don't care so much about the need for tax increases.   If we can get those bastards to get serious about passing balanced budgets and serious about saying fuck no to emergency spending authorizations for expenditures that were known WELL in advance we wouldn't need these tax increases.

On a side note.....GET USED TO THEM.    As the baby boomers get into full retirement swing, there's going to be a LOT of tax increases with or without balanced budgets.   We're on the back side of the largest pyramid scheme in all of history and Gen X is going to be required to find a way to solve it.   It ain't gonna be pretty for anybody.

Yes, and all citizens should receive a free chocolate sundae on the first of every month.

Typical Republicans, create a disaster and then blame the Democrats.  Bush's "middle class tax cut" was a complete sham because it cut the standard tax but left the ATM alone.  They cynically knew how stupid their supporters are and counted on that ignorance and have once again been proven right

From the article...

quote:

The alternative minimum tax was passed in 1969 and was aimed at about 155 very wealthy families who used deductions to avoid paying any federal income tax. The AMT disallows certain deductions and credits. It was not adjusted for inflation; as a result, over the years it has hit a growing number of middle-income taxpayers.
More than 4 million were subject to it in the 2006 tax year, and that could soar to 25 million this year without congressional action.

Problem is, with the vast sums of debt the Republicans have created due to their wild spending sprees and tax cuts for the rich, fixing the ATM so it doesn't further fuck the middle class will cause a massive revenue shortfall.  It isn't laziness, the Republican's laid a trap for the Democrats and they are trying to find a way out.

Thanks, my friend. Hey... wanna be my running mate? After we get done with all of the above, we'll abolish the lobbying system. Our government will no longer be for sale!

When Bill Clinton put me out of a job for a week here and a week there to insist on a balanced budget, it wasn't the Republicans or the Democrats lining up on borders.   Both freaking parties were fighting him and wanting to spend our asses away.

I don't care what their party orientation is, I want another president who is so serious about balancing the budget that they will shut down ALL non-essential operations to make it happen.  Clinton is the ONLY president who has made that happen since the year of my birth (1969) and I think we need a LOT more who are willing to make a balanced budget happen.   The Congress and the Senate sure as heck won't make it happen regardless of what particular party is in control.

No doubt that and campaign finance reform through ''Public only'' financing, would greatly diminish the special interest lobby and the magnificent power/influence it wields.

as long as you guys included 2 constitutional amendments.

1) corporations cannot have a status of personhood

2) 4th branch of government   (the people)

I don't understand how NOT passing Legislation can cost money.

"H&R Block said 60 percent of its clients who claim credits using forms affected by pending legislation normally file by the end of February. A delayed refund could cause hardship for those people in paying holiday bills or addressing other immediate financial problems, according to the company."

So.... H&R Block customers with enough income to pay the AMT are so fiscally irresponsible they need their tax refund to pay of their holiday debt?

Even though I believe in a largely scaled-down government, I also believe that we should have a 4th branch. My 4th branch would be the monetary branch. It would take over for some of the functions of the abolished Federal Reserve and US Treasury, as well as new functions.

As good as our country's forefathers did, they missed the boat on this one. This lead to the subsequent power struggles and ultimate monetary takeover by private banking interests.

Do you shake your head in disgust that corporations do have personhood status, or that some people want to change the current status?
