How has he responded in the past to your requests? If he doesn't mind suggestions, then why not share some of your feelings? Imo, you should go to him with some reasons why a training collar is a good idea for both of you. Examine your motivations behind wanting a training collar too. Maybe there is something else that will satisfy that desire that isn't a training collar or perhaps that desire will not be satisfied by a training collar. Not you, so I cannot say.
