Actually the original KKK is gone, long subverted by external forces.
You see the reconstruction, their pet name for punishment, after the civil war brought a huge redistribution of wealth. Crooked politicians and judges were working hard to get the wealth into the "right" hands. They became known as carpetbaggers, and most of them were White, and they were the main target of the KKK for a little midnight rope party.
Actually they got some Blacks as well. Many of the Blacks they hanged were criminals. They had been freed by crooked judges. Some of them were wild after being oppressed for years, I sure would've been.
So you have crooked politicians making laws that hurt anyone with a plantation or farm, let criminals loose and won't act to forestall foreclosures. You think foreclosures are high now ? This is nothing. The only difference now is that there are more people. Think of it, a friggin war just ended, everybody was dirt poor. The big money that had financed the South's campaign was gone.
If you dismiss all this as hogwash, go mention Sherman in Savannah, I'm sure you have heard the saying. OK, you can mention Sherman in Savannah now, but years ago there was a hell of alot of animosity about it because it was clear that the North wanted to punish the South.
There are many myths about the civil war, one is that it had a damn thing to do with slavery. First of all some states had already abolished slavery, Florida comes to mind. Most states actually had abolishonists in their governments and many had some form of legislation on the table to put an end to it. Whether these measures would've passed is unknown.
There are many untruths told about history. The actions of the US government were the impetus for the civil war. And the pattern continues to this day. And having won, their very carefully concieved propoganda plan has worked. They mark the KKK as a group of knuckle dragging moroms saying "Tonight I'm gonna hang me some N______". This is simply not true. Some members maybe, but it was not the spirit of the organization.
But with the right propaganda, anything can happen. After a time, racial pride is confused with bigotry, and seperatism confused with radicalism.
Let's delve into seperatism for a moment shall we ? I could consider myself a seperatist. I am white, so consider that I am speaking from that perspective.
Black seperatists. White seperatists. Now if one race has the right to be seperatist then so does another. OK, they want to live in a neighborhood and teach their kids differently than the norm. They are say Muslim, and celebrate Kwanzaa. They do not want their kids seeing big Santas all over the place in December. In their neigborhood I would imagine they would decorate differently, I have no idea what the symbols of Kwanzaa are, but I imagine one could find out in "their" neighborhood. There would be covenents on the deeds of all the properties in that neighborhood that no house "from here to here", something like that, will ever be sold or rented to anyone of the White or any other than Black race.
LEGAL Mexican immigrants could setup similar neighborhoods. You simply can't buy into there if you are, as the INS puts it - OTM.
So far so good right ? A community flavor, like within a town or city. If you don't like uit don't go there. Be polite, don't jam Judas Priest at 3,000 watts going through the Mexican neighborhood, don't play Hispanic music in the Black neighborhood. Don't bother them. Know them ? Sure. Visit ? Sure.
But what if I were to say that Whites should have that right ? I'm dropping that right now, I'll let someone else get out the ten foot pole.
White people who are rich have already done this. There are gated communities which cost so much to live in that only CEOs and politicians can afford to live there.
I submit that this particular financial barrier is put up to exclude others. You KNOW what I mean. They charge exhorbitant prices for these homes and hefty maintainence fees. But with the money these people pull down, they simply don't care. The want to be there, and I would bet that many of the residents are members of the cliche that started the whole development.
I submit this - I believe that a creative, succesful Man has the right to try to recreate the environment in which he was raised for his children.
Or not.
You know in Cleveland we used to have areas known as little Italy and little Poland. These People assimilated of course, but maintained their culture. I many cases they did so by finding some land, after learning the language and getting a job that is, and in some cases building their own houses on it. My Greatgrandfather built his own house on Ruby ave. in this city. It stands tall and large to this day, and of course now has been converted to a triplex. I think Italians did that.
Is that putting Italians down ? I AM an honorary Italian, for reasons beyond the scope of this. I am not putting Italians down, realize how much rent that thing is probably pulling in. And also think, does one family need all that room ?
Anyway, the guy who built the place, my Greatgrandfather was so Polack that his FIRST name ended with Z. So it is forbidden for me express any pride.
He succeeded in life so that my Grandfather, Father, and in turn I could live.
In a nutshell, don't get your info from Faux news about the KKK. They know less than you do. And I'll have nothing to do with them now. They are not what they are supposed to be, and haven't been thoughout our entire lifetime. Big money that profited on the civil war wrote history. As such, we do not know anything for sure.
All I can say to the naysayers and those who want cites and quotes - sorry. Some of this was told to me by an old guy. Do yourselves a favor if you can, talk to old people, specifically ask them about the old days. Unrelated, but I thouroughly enjoyed talking to, err, actually listening to my eighty some year old neighbor. There is a hill at the end of the street. As per previous agreement I was dumping leaves or grass clippings down the hill.
Well I noticed him throwing something out, rabbit cages he explained. They were very old. He explained to me that during the depression they used to raise rabbits for meat.
This is looking like a hijack, to stop now would be like a partial birth abortion. Sorry.
