Muttling -> Forum Question........... (11/29/2007 7:19:01 PM)

I have 2 questions I would like to ask the mods/ admin, but do not know the appropriate forum or e-mail address to send them to.   Am I just missing something (which is quite common)?

For those who are curious, the questions are non-confrontational and here they area...

1 - How do posters ask questions or make suggestions concerning the forum?   An Ask the Mods Forum and/or e-mail address would be helpful.   (If one already exists, perhaps we can make it more obvious to the blatantly challanged such as myself.)

2 - Why the restriction on posting of images in threads?  I understand why you would not want images uploaded to the Collarme.com servers, but what is the problem with linking to external images?   On a seperate note, since it is obviously deemed appropriate by the mods, shouldn't we find a way to disable the "img" command instead of relying on mods to find and remove them?

I think I know the answer to this part of your question. The images take up bandwidth, and it makes the page load a lot slower. This is why one can chose the option of not displaying avatars... and if you are on dialup I would recommend you do that...

More importantly, it prevents the possibility of inappropriate images being displayed.  It isn't a question of bandwidth (in external images cases) but rather it ensures that the mods don't have to wade through dozens or hundreds of images and end up missing something inappropriate (due to age, copyright, etc.)  As it is, the topics we discuss make CM and collarchat a target for religious groups and governmental supervision.  Free speech isn't free; it's pretty damn expensive.

To reach a Mod, go to "search" on the home page and enter the Moderator's full nick; i.e., ModeratorOne.  Hit female or any and then hit search; their Mod profile should come up.

To reach admin, go to "support"  which has its email addy on the bottom of the "Help" page.

I belonged to a political forum that allowed outside images into posts, and it did slow the pages down quite significantly

It's because the images take time to load from the external sites.

CM can't account for how fast an external site responds.  That doesn't slow the forum from displaying data.

I've been into coral reef aquariums for about 20 years and have been active in the on-line reefing community for almost as long (including moderating a now dead forum for beginners in that hobby.)  All our forums allow photos and the like, but you can hit "Do not automatically load images" on your browser if you're running dial up.

KatyLied -> RE: Forum Question........... (11/30/2007 8:12:52 PM)

This is the only message board I post on that does not allow images.  At the others the rule is no hot-linking.  No ripping off other's bandwith.  That may also be an issue here, with them not wanting to have to babysit people who hot-link.

As far as what the guidelines are, in administrative announcements there is a thread called collarme forum guidelines.  As far as questions or suggestions, if is suggestion for the site, you can submit it to support.  If you have a direct question for a mod, I'm sure Mod11 wont mind if you email them and ask them!!!!!![;)]
