The women in the story above are so strong when you think of the society they live in, for them to actually stand up and be counted is so amazing.

And if they were Muslim, we'd be calling them terrorists. "We will resort to other measures." The only difference between groups like this and the Taliban is that they are fighting for values you appreciate, and the Taliban is fighting for values you don't. Why was the Taliban so popular in the first place? Because they were the only ones willing to fight corruption on behalf of the poor.

Violence is never the answer. Yeah, it's a cliche, but there's no other way to put it. It's true.

I don't like to advocate violence but in these backward, feudal, male dominated countries where women are nothing but a commodity to be traded around like a cow, I have to say this is the only way they may get results. Men have been doing this sort of thing for how long? and its gotten them results. As long as they stick to beating men who are wife beaters, child molesters and the like I got no problem with it, but if they start randomly beating any man walking the street, or forcing him to be covered from head to toe, or trading him off like property that I will have a problem with it. And without due process how do we know these are the "bad" ones that deserve beatings? Do you know how many criminal organizations started as a vigilante group? Advocating it for one thing, advocates it for another, if not then the advocacy is for hypocrisy.

Blanket statements like, "violence is never the answer" are as ignorant as those statements condoning violence. Comparing these women to the Taliban is ludicrous. I agree their victims are unjustly denied due process. But, in a society that is corrupt, sometimes violence is the only answer.

But seriously, this just proves how ineffective law-enforcement is "in certain areas"--after all, in America, vigilantes are pursued harder and punished harsher than any REAL criminals!
Oh, wait, we can't pass judgement on a third-world country based on American standards!

It SEEMS to be effective there, though...Are Americans too genteel or too scared to go after our own criminal "unofficially"?

Yup, nothing wrong with vigilance committees.
If govt was doing the job that The People pay them to do they wouldn't be neccessary, would they?
Good for these women for wanting to Kick some Ass!
I think we need to bring back tarring and feathering in this country for politicians who don't do their jobs or listen to the people!

I agree with the statements below, with the exception of using the word ludicrous. If violence is done on a society that is perceived to be corrupt, will it stop when the corruption stops? How will you know when the corruptions stops? What do you determine corruption to be?

Violence has actually been the answer to many things in mankind's history, some good and some bad. Whether it is good or bad, would determine which side of the moral you are on.

Nah, in America, women have the privilege to dress/act like whores on their OWN accord, then wonder why they get no respect...Others prefer money instead of respect...

But seriously, can you imagine HAVING to cover up in essentially a full-body curtain, no matter your figure and/or the weather?
Or being pushed back INTO a burning school because you aren't thus covered?
Or being FORCED to breed? (Assuming there is any relationship between low birth-rates and legally "emancipated" women)
Or divorce occurring with just three repetitions of "I divorce you"?

Rape is still sometimes considered the victim's fault, even in the USA, but that goes back to how one dresses and acts: Making your own decisions means taking your own consequences, and our litigation system effectively blocks most consequences for both sides, except for the most heinous crimes, and/or the most obvious ones! Even in an "ideal" world, looking/acting like a whore would mean you get treated like one, and the line between flirting and harrassment is STILL all but invisible!

OK, let me restate: Violence is never a good answer.

Anyway, sure, if you're talking about something like World War II, then I agree, violence was just about inevitable. But the violence of a vigilante group anointing itself as judge, jury, and executioner--that's not inevitable, and it's not a good answer.
